On the way out we stop by Boulangerie Pâtisserie “Gourmandise Et Sucre Grain” former Olivier Le Brun our favorite pâtissiere at 9, rue Saint Vincent to get our country breads and chorizo and lardon bacon breads ! delicious for 1,70€ each. Just to bring home the bacon! And we have stop with new owners same quality and service
We stop by at our favorite wine store in France, Nicolas right in the middle of the market in place du poids public. And again we were greeted nicely and long conversation with the store manager that we have known for years, We loaded our usual 6 cartons lol !!! The La Tapenalgue house founded in 1937 ,and located in the historic center of Vannes,at 23 Rue des Halles, This old town known for its medieval architecture, particularly its stone and half-timbered houses. This house is also renowned for containing what cannot be found anywhere else, such as Ferney Branca, or Chartreuse which had their hours of glory and still retain their unconditional fans. Products from the Dukes of Gascony, local flavors, regional and other alcohols, Dammann Frères or Christine Dattner teas among others and very pretty gourmet baskets to compose yourself. One of the reasons , they are many to come to Vannes is to get our fish cannery and especially soups at the wonderful La Belle Iloise. In Quiberon, in Morbihan, the cannery created by the Hilliet family has been defending craftsmanship and local riches since 1932. Born in the heyday of sardine fishing, it has endured, outside the mass distribution circuit, with great blows of astonishing recipes and colorful boxes. They bets on direct sales and opens their first store within the factory, by the sea, in 1967.This is La Belle Iloise and we love to go to the stores at Place du Poids Public and Place des Lices in Vannes,as well as the original in Quiberon. The first store in Vannes, opened on Place Lucien-Laroche in 2000. It was small only 36 m2 (about 387 sq ft) , and they were aware this will outgrow soon as it did. Freeing up a commercial space on the ground floor of the Hôtel Minier (formerly Francheville see post) is an opportunity that they seized. Until February 2014, before the launch of the renovation of the building, this location had been occupied since 2000 by the Marionnaud perfumery, which moved to rue Saint-Vincent. This new store has 75 m2 (about 807 sq ft). The building where the store is located is historical (Hôtel Minier) and was built during the period of extension of the city following the arrival of the Parliament of Brittany in 1675. It is estimated that the building was built on an older building of which we find , in the lower part, certain elements: ogival bay, 15C fireplace, etc. It is built on land on the edge of the rocky hillside corresponding to the old town, just on the edge of the marsh area reclaimed from the old port land. The rocky hillside drops steeply to the level of the staircase. Surveys have allowed to verify this,according to architects. The foundations on soft ground have undergone settling over the years, resulting in the disorders that can currently be read on the facades. You have floor archeological sediments kept for history sake inside the La Belle Iloise store !!

The Cordonnerie Blanchard Dominique or Shoe Repair shop, The old traditions in Vannes, as you can see posted on the corner of the workbench, the old hammer attests to the age of Blanchard Shoe Repair. It’s been giving a second life to old shoes for 58 years. The folks ,remember shoemakers have been here for a century with photos from 1920. For the Blanchard family, it all started in 1960. At the time, the shoe repair shop covered 7 m². Since then, it has expanded, initially by 2 m². The son carries the torch ,It perpetuates the artisanal tradition by offering repair services for shoes, clogs, umbrellas, bags, slippers, and other leather goods. The shop also offers a selection of products from local artisans, reflecting a commitment to regional expertise. The Ronan Blanchard Boutique and Ethoppe, 15 Place des Lices. Open Tuesday to Friday, 8h to 12h, and 113h to 19h and Saturday, 8h to 19h. We have used it a couple times and always good service and prices,
By the rue du Mené ,and Place Joseph Le Brix the building at 20 rue du Mené was a commercial building called Grand Bazar du Morbihan Paul Coquinet, then Magasins Modernes, then Les Nouvelles Galeries, then Eurodif and then Magasins Bouchara, (we had visited the latter two) It initially was established in the fourth quarter of the 19C by Paul Coquinet at n°24 rue du Mené. This bazaar was subsequently bought by the Magasins Modernes (of Paris) at the beginning of the 20C and is given in management. In 1920, an expansion project was requested that gave rise to the building adjoining the first commercial building, located on an old garden. The building leaning against the adjoining rampart facing the street comprising 2 square floors and one in addition. The front elevation is coated with limestone ashlar used for the frames of the openings. Double in depth, the building originally served by a symmetrical T-shaped staircase, now replaced, is linked on the rear facade to 2 other buildings, the first with long sides and the second leaning on the rampart, probably replacing a courtyard interior with direct access from the street through a passage under the porch. The building on the street is later doubled by another building with a gabled façade and zenital lighting. The building now housing the Le Temps Des Cerises (women clothing ), and the L’Hiboutique of Harry Potter fame is at 18 Rue du Mené,(which of course, we have shop!) The house built in 1892, date given in Roman numerals on the facade for Charles Marin, wine merchant and whose shop, built on a plot abandoned at the beginning of the 20C, is adjoining. Charles Marin was president of the commercial court and mayor of Vannes. The house faces the street entirely in freestone limestone, with a square story and an additional story facing the street. The rear elevation is coated, with a gabled hipped roof, with a square story and an additional story. Large bay window on the street facade surmounted by a dormer window with gabled pediment balcony. The facade of the shop retains its original woodwork.
