I have found a new picture in my cd rom vault couple with others mix in in other post to do this one well deserve me think. Therefore, here is my take on the former chapelle Corneille of Rouen !!! ,Hope you enjoy the post as I

The former Chapelle Corneille, formerly the Church of Saint Louis, is located on Rue Bourg-l’Abbé, south of the Lycée Corneille. This church is a synthesis of late Gothic and Classical architecture. Its street-facing façade gives the impression of being unfinished. In terms of size, it is the third largest church in Rouen and the third largest Jesuit church in France. The Classical façade is accessed by a flight of steps. The doorway is framed by two Doric columns, surmounted by an entablature. Above, a semicircular arched window opens. The façade is crowned by a pediment. Four statues, placed in niches, represent Saint Louis, Charlemagne, Saint Ignatius of Loyola (founder of the Jesuits), and Saint Francis of Assisi.

It is laid out in the shape of a cross with a single nave and is 52 meters long. Two chapels were then developed. The northern chapel, in 1826, housed the tomb of Cardinal de Joyeuse. The southern chapel, the Chapel of the Passion, has an altarpiece identical to that of the Abbey Church of Saint-Ouen. It depicts Our Lady of Liesse and was created in 1684 for Saint-Ouen. A plaster Christ figure rests upon it. Its altarpiece, dated 1661, was originally a painting, a Crucifixion by Jouvenet, located in the lower section. The west side chapel of the choir was designed in 1704. The tops of the doors framing the altarpiece depict the life of Ignatius of Loyola. The left door represents his vision of Christ, while the right door shows Ignatius receiving the Holy Sacraments. The choir houses a wooden altarpiece from the second half of the 17th century.

Since 2016, the chapel has hosted concerts. A sphere with a diameter of 7 meters diffracts sound throughout the 600-seat auditorium while simultaneously illuminating the stage. The programs complement those of the Théâtre des Arts in Rouen.

A bit of history I like tell us that the foundation stone of Saint-Louis Church was laid in 1615 by Queen Marie de Medici. The first mass was celebrated in 1631. The church was consecrated in 1704. The chancel and transept were completed in 1725. The expulsion of the Jesuits who ran the adjoining college marked its decline and gradual abandonment. In 1765, the organ was dismantled and installed in Saint-Michel Church in Pont-l’Évêque. The altars were sold and now adorn the Church of the Holy Trinity in Pinterville. In 1793, it became a fodder store. In 1799, the church served as a repository for the city’s paintings, making it the first Fine Arts Museum in Rouen. Since 1959, successive restoration campaigns have allowed it to be returned to worship and opened to a wide public for prestigious cultural activities such as the Rouen October Festival. Since 2016, the Chapelle Corneille has housed a 600-seat performance hall managed by the Opéra Rouen Normandie.
