The bunkers of Pointe du Roc in Granville !!!

There you go had pictures mix in other posts and they should be in one , me think, This is in beautiful pointe du Roc in the City of Granville , dept 50 of the Manche in the region of Normandie, and in my belle France,  We went on our road warrior trails stopping several towns until reaching wonderful Granville (see posts) A nice quant town of many memorable moments and we should be back eventually, Therefore, let me tell you my take on the bunkers of Pointe du Roc in Granville !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I

The city has a wonderful ville haute or high town area with gorgeous views over the city and the sea. The pointe du Roc is magnificent and plenty of old bunkers from WWII on the Atlantic wall construction by the Nazis. The walkpaths are wonderful and you need to be in good shape to walk all these.  The pointe du Roc  dominating the City worth the trip there just for the breathtaking views of the Channel Islands and the Chausey archipelago offshore; its cliffside walks, invigorating sea air, views ! The three gun emplacements in the north and west allowed for a firing range extending from north to south, while the fourth gun, located in the south, covered an area stretching from west to east. A small lookout post was built beneath the current semaphore station (see pic) for surveillance.

The bunkers at Pointe du Roc were part of the famous Atlantic Wall defenses ; this place, formerly known as Cap Lihou. Once there, you’ll be immersed in the history of the Atlantic Wall. During WWII, the nazis occupied the area and built a battery, transforming it into a veritable fortress. The Pointe du Roc battery consisted of 25 blockhouses; today, about a dozen remain. Among them is the central bunker, which includes four casemates for 105mm guns and two circular platforms for 155mm guns. It is representative of the medium-caliber artillery fortifications of the defensive system established by the Todt organization starting in the summer of 1942 to ensure the long-range defense of a port, in this case, Granville. The bunker has shelter for 15 men, and on the other side, the ammunition magazine, with its Belgian-made 120mm gun and a range of 17.5 km, extending beyond Chausey.

The main big bunker is now part of a museum, There you can discover rare items, such as an original American report on the reconstruction of the port of Granville from September to November 1944, helmets, badges, grenades, and gas masks… nearly 400 objects in total (not all of which are on display at the moment). Despite their diverse and sometimes unknown origins, these collector’s items offer a better understanding of the history that unfolded in Granville during this dark period.
