This is Vouvray !!!

I was recently on a road warrior tour of the area, and got to see some repeated towns and some new ones. I have been to Vouvray for its exquisite white wines indeed. In my recent visit of last week needed to passed by it for the memories of always when came with my dear late wife Martine ; now with our boys and Rex our dog, Therefore, here is my take on this is Vouvray !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The village of Vouvray is located in the Indre-et-Loire department No 37, in the Centre-Val de Loire region of my belle France. It is bordered on its southern flank by the Loire river and crossed by the Cisse river. It is 10 km from Tours, 6 km from La Ville aux Dames, and Montlouis sur Loire, 16 km from Amboise, 238 km from Versailles and 365 km from my current town, I came here from Montlouis sur Loire along the D751 road then D142 and finally the D952 road,

The Cave des producteurs de Vouvray is the cooperative of winegrowers and traditional know-how for 60 years. From this alliance are born the finest fine bubbles Vouvray and the still wines of Vouvray. The guide will accompany you through ther 3 km of cellars’ galleries and will deliver the secrets of the wine making. A commented and convivial tasting will be offered to you and you will be able to discover the shop and let yourself be tempted by the regional products and the cellar items This agricultural cooperative is made up of 43 AOC Vouvray winegrowers who manage around 350 hectares of vines. Different spaces: boutique space (sale and wine tasting), Cooperage Museum space (exhibition of objects + projection of a film “The four seasons of the vine”), accessible by a staircase or a gently sloping secondary access , cellars dug in the tufa – 2 km (accessible only by guided tour), hangar dedicated to disgorging and dressing of bottles, inaccessible to people in wheelchairs,but compensated by the viewing of a film in the accessible projection room.  Here you can buy from all properties at their store. The Coop is very convenient because in addition to their wines you can buy the wines of others in the area and load up home like we do!

The Moncontour vineyard is one of the oldest in the Loire Valley, and since the 10C, cellars have been dug into the hillside to vinify and preserve this precious wine. Since the Renaissance, it has acquired great renown and is exported abroad, particularly to northern European countries. In addition to its vines, which are grown on the best hillsides overlooking the Loire Valley, the Domaine de Moncontour offers wine lovers a historical setting with its elegant château. The Vine and Wine Museum is located in the château’s troglodyte cellars and traces the social and cultural history of the winemaking world and the wine trades. It features a collection of approximately 3,000 tools related to working with vines and wine. However, we were on the D952 road passing the above and stop at Caveau de l’Oiseau Gourmandeur – Vignobles Feray for a tasting of wines from several estates,

Other things to see here are the Château de Moncontour: long desired, but in vain, by Balzac. You can visit the Wine Museum, a very comprehensive ecomuseum with over 2,000 traditional tools. Church Notre Dame and Saint John the Baptist ,see on the wall of the church, an interesting monument to Charles Bordes, creator of the Schola Cantorum. In front of the church, where there once was a Sully elm tree, you can see a stone waiting for the dead. Many manors such as La Gaudrelle (17C), Le Mont (17C), Les Bidaudières (18C), etc. And the troglodyte chapel of L’Écheneau

A bit of history I like tell us that in the 4C, the birth of the vineyard is linked to the founding of the Marmoutier monastery by Saint Martin in 372. The surrounding area of ​​the abbey is covered with vines that produce exquisite wine. In the 14C, some Vouvray wines belonged to the French crown and featured prominently on the king’s table. The Vouvray AOC was recognized by a decree of September 6, 1936.

Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
