The écuries Maréchal de Saxe of Chambord !!!

And we came back to mighty beautiful Chambord ! It has been said that the stretch of land on both sides of the Loire river passing by several famous towns for its castles was referred to as the valley of the kings. Well Chambord is the king of the valley! Chambord is a small village with a huge castle and even bigger forest in dept Loir-et- Cher,no 41 of the Centre-Val de Loire region of my belle France. As usual , I have written plenty but never enough when you consider the magnificent of Chambord. Therefore, here is my take on the écuries Maréchal de Saxe of Chambord !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The village of Chambord is famous for its castle and its fully enclosed park, a national hunting reserve where presidential hunts once took place. The village and the entire territory are the property of the French State, administered in the form of a public industrial and commercial establishment called the Domaine national de Chambord. The latest was 35 min 31 km from our hotel in Meung sur Loire to Chambord follow D2 and D2152 towards Av. de Chambord/D925 to Beaugency, At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Av. d’Orléans/D2152, Follow D925 towards D951 to Saint-Laurent-Nouan turn left onto Av. de Chambord/D925 (signs towards Lailly en Val/La Ferté St A./St Laurent des Eaux) Continue to follow D925 turn left onto Pont de Beaugency/D925 turn right onto D925 (signs towards La Ferté St Cyr/Chambord) at the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto D951 , Follow D112B and D112 towards Place Saint-Louis to Chambord.

The écuries Maréchal de Saxe is not only a historic site, but also a venue for spectacular equestrian shows featuring horses and birds of prey. You will be able to appreciate the beauty of nature and the majesty of these animals which occur in the stables of the Maréchal de Saxe, You can also discover the history of Chambord and the reign of François I, the king who built the magnificent castle located nearby. The shows are offered from April to October, and you can book your tickets online or at the entrance to the castle. Narrated by Jean Dujardin, this unique show features ten horses and eight riders, embodying iconic figures such as Francis I, Louis XIV, Molière, and Marshal of Saxony.(maréchal de Saxe) The visual universe, featuring sumptuous costumes, sets specially designed for this show at Chambord, and innovative scenography, transports the audience into a spectacular adventure where the horse, the true protagonist of the story, is at the center of the narrative.

Maurice de Saxe, Count of the Raute (1696-1710), then Count of Saxony (1710-1750), was a soldier born on 28 October 1696 in Goslar (free imperial city) and died on 30 November 1750 in the castle of Chambord. Passionate about horses and hunting, he ordered the completion of the stables begun by Jules Hardouin-Mansart in order to create a royal stud farm.

For a little background, the construction of the stables began with Louis XIV. The king entrusted his architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart with an ambitious program of works around the château: the renovation and beautification of the surrounding area on the one hand, and the creation of stables in the forecourt on the other. The project for the stables on the large esplanade, south of the château, included the creation of two facing buildings to accommodate 400 horses, as well as guardhouses, living quarters, stores, and sheds. In 1686, a year after construction began, the “Small Stable” to the east stood on a single level, while the “Great Stable” to the west was barely in the making. In 1748, Maurice, Count of Saxe and Marshal of France, settled permanently at the Château de Chambord with his Saxe-Volunteer cavalry regiments, his “ulhans” and “dragoons”. In the château, the Count undertook, with the help of the King’s Buildings Service and the royal furniture repository, significant improvements to the comfort of the château. Near the château, he completed the small stable begun by the Sun King. Now raised by one floor and known as the “barracks”, it housed the horse stalls on the ground floor and, on the attic floor, the soldiers.
