The Château de Beaumesnil !!!

This is a pleasant road warrior ride in beautiful countryside in the Normandie region, We had visited many times over the years and always looking forward to be back, eventually, Again, looking in my cd rom vault found me this picture that need to be in my blog for you and me, This one is in the village of Beaumesnil in the dept 27 of Eure in the region of Normandie and in my belle France, On January 2016 saw the birth of a new town: Mesnil-en-Ouche. This is the result of the merger of 16 villages such as Beaumesnil. The village is located 38 km from Évreux, 77 km from Alençon, 38 km from Lisieux, 123 km from Versailles, and 399 km from my current home, We came here from Versailles on the N12 to Nonancourt, then D50 to Mesnil sur Iton, then D140 to Conches en Ouche ,then around it on the D840 to take the D140 again to the town,

Let me tell you a bit on the Château de Beaumesnil in Beaumesnil, took one of my road warrior swing but memorable ride and wonderful property that needs to be visited more in depth, eventually, Therefore, here is my take on the Château de Beaumesnil !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The existence of an estate in Beaumesnil has been attested since 911, the date of the Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte. Rare example of a baroque castle from the Louis XIII period The current castle, built between 1633 and 1640, probably remained unfinished. Restored in the 19-20C, it houses a bookbinding museum. The castle entered the Harcourt family by alliance in the 12C and in the 13C, it became the appanage of the younger branch of Robert d’Harcourt who established his residence there. In 1418, during the Hundred Years’ War, Henry V of England installed Robert de Willoughby in the castle; The English were driven out in 1435 by Florent, Lord of Illiers, but they recovered it a little later. Fast forward on the old history we come to Jean Fürstenberg and his wife Eugénie who bought the property in 1939; they created a bookbinding museum. Around 450 old bindings are exhibited there, as well as bookbinder’s tools. The collection includes many bindings of German, Italian and Central European origin, as well as French bindings “à l’éventail” and gilded with small stamps 17C, and bindings with coats of arms from the 18C. When Jean died, the Fürstenberg Beaumesnil Foundation, recognized as being of public utility in 1966, endeavored to maintain the entire estate and its collections.

Other things to see here with more time are the Church Saint Aubin de Saint Aubin sur Risle in the village of Ajou, 15C , Church Sainte Marguerite in the village of Sainte Marguerite en Ouche 12-13C. The Church Saint-Ouen-de-Mancelles in the village of Gisay la Coudre from the 12C, 16C and 18C, The château du Blanc-Buisson  dating from the end of the 13C in the village of Saint Pierre du Mesnil.
