The Church Saint Amans of Rodez !!!

Several years back while visiting my belle France, took a ride into this area. Not aware had some older pictures in my cd rom vault and glad to found them! Not back since but left a nice impression ,and hope to be back, eventually. I like to tell you a bit about this town taking advantage of these older pictures. Therefore, here is my take on the Church Saint Amans of Rodez !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The city of Rodez is in the dept 12 of Aveyron in the Occitanie region, former capital of Rouergue, and in my belle France, The city and the agglomeration are located on the edge of the RN 88 road, in the Toulouse-Lyon axis,This road allows to reach Albi, Castres, Montpellier, Toulouse by the south and Clermont-Ferrand, Lyon, Orleans, Paris or Millau, Béziers, Sète, Narbonne, Perpignan from the north. Rodez is 50 km from the A75road The D840 allows to reach Rodez-Aveyron International Airport, Decazeville (then Aurillac by D 963 and N 122), Figeac, Brive, then A20 for Limoges, Tours, Orléans, Paris; The D 994 allows to reach Villefranche-de-Rouergue, Cahors, Villeneuve-sur-Lot, then Bordeaux. Rodez is 135 km from Toulouse, 345 km from Bordeaux, 326 km from Lyon, 636 km from Versailles, and 694 km from my current home.

The Church Saint Amans was built in the 12C on the tomb of Bishop Saint Amans (died 440), who is said to have been the first bishop of Rodez. Around 1061 or 1062, the abbey, which had adopted the rule of Saint Augustine, adopted the Benedictine rule and was attached to the Saint-Victor Abbey in Marseille with the agreement of the Count of Rodez. The church was then the church of the town dependent on the Count and the convent church of the religious community. In 1751, a bull of secularization of the property of the Saint-Victor Abbey led to a change in status for the Church Saint Amans, which regained its independence. It was rebuilt from 1758 to 1761 with materials recovered from the old church. The Baroque style dominates the exterior, while the interior has retained its Romanesque architecture. Seven 16C tapestries decorate the choir of the church. They represent the life and miracles of Saint Amans. The great organ was made by the Théodore Puget house of Toulouse (1885). Concerts and recitals regularly highlight its musical quality.

Three reliquaries housed the skulls of Saint Amans, Saint Dalmas, and Saint Naamas (skull), a deacon of Saint Amans. This deacon born in Rodez had all the qualities and virtues of the deacon Saint Stephen and the deacon Saint Lawrence according to his contemporaries. And this holiness even made him an effective exorcist to chase away the demons who trembled before him. Unfortunately, those who have taken up these sayings are somewhat embarrassed to specify their historicity. But we can honor this holy deacon , even if we do not know all the details of his existence.
