I like to tell you again about my road warrior trails in my belle France. Again, found me some older pictures in my cd rom vault ,and should be in my blog for you and me, I like to do justice to the place and give you some on Rembercourt-Sommaisne, Therefore, here is my take on this is Rembercourt-Sommaisne !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The village of Rembercourt-Sommaisne is located in department no, 55 of the Meuse, in the Grand Est region of my belle France. Since January 1, 1973, Rembercourt aux Pots became jointed with Sommaisne following its merger-association, It is 37 km from Verdun, 92 km from Metz, 122 km from Reims, 286 km from Versailles, and 729 km from my current home, All along the A4 autoroute sortie/exit 27, down on D998 right to D922,and village,
The Church Saint-Louvent located in the old village of Rembercourt-aux-Pots , You may be surprise by the presence of such a large church in such a small village. It is to ignore that in the Middle Ages, the church was an important place of pilgrimage devoted to Saint Louvent. There are few texts concerning the construction of the church ,most indicates that the church was built in 1500, it would therefore seem that its construction was due to the patronage of René II of Lorraine who was Duke of Bar and Lorraine. It is not known where the chapels were located because the church was renovated in the 18C. Only the Notre-Dame-de-Pitié Chapel has always been south of the fifth span of the nave, On the western facade we can distinguish two well marked styles. The oldest corresponds to Flamboyant Gothic and the second to the first Renaissance , The Church Saint-Louvent of Rembercourt-aux-Pots, the woodwork and stalls of the choir date from the time of Louis XIV and come from the Abbey of Sainte Hoïlde ; sold at the French revolution, now, farm of Bussy-la-Côte. The church shows a length of 56 meters, with the central nave width of 8 meters, under the chapels the width is 28 meters, and the height under vaults is 18 meters, Worth the detour, me think.

A bit of history tell us that Jean de Saulx sold his lordship around 1453 to René Ier. The Duchy of Bar and that of Lorraine are attacked by the Burgundians until the death of Charles the Bold before Nancy. Since 1473 the Mouvant Barrois had been placed under the protection of the kings of France. The city had to see the troops pass in 1420, 1430 then between 1437 and 1497. The city was taken in 1567 by the Protestant troops of the Prince of Condé. Rembercourt-aux-Pots with its “chartons” participated before the 16C in international traffic which run from the Netherlands to Italy.
During the Great War or WWI, on September 8, 1914, the town was bombed by the German artillery, the church was burned. The French army built an aerodrome there in 1916 which was used by the American expeditionary force which established the first hunting group for the offensive on St-Mihiel. Rembercourt, a village in the heart of the Meusian battles of the Battle of the Marne, of September 1914, The national necropolis of Rembercourt-aux-Pots brings together the graves of 5,510 French who died during the fights of Vaux-Marie and the back-front from Verdun from 1914 to 1918 ,Two ossuaries brought together nearly 3,400 bodies created in 1919, It was developed in 1922 to bring together the remains of soldiers buried initially in the neighboring villages of Vassincourt, Contrisson and Laimont.
Sommaisne is cited in the poem of Aragon, « Le conscrit des cent villages » or the conscript of the hundred villages, written as an act of intellectual resistance in a clandestine way in the spring of 1943, during WWII.
