This is Saint Sulpice sur Léze !!!

We have driven all over this wonderful area of my belle France, and would like to have an imprint in my blog on the wonderful family times we had there, There is so much to see , doing my best, and glad found me this old picture in my cd rom vault, which now transposing in my blog for you and me,Therefore, here is my take on this is Saint-Sulpice sur Léze !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The village of Saint-Sulpice-sur-Lèze is located in the center of the Haute-Garonne department, no, 31 in the Occitanie region of my belle France. It is located 39 km from Toulouse, 19 km from Muret, 8 km from Mauzac, 212 km from Benasque (Spain), 712 km from Versailles ,and 766 km from my current home, The usual access is by the autoroute A64 exit/sortie 28, then take the D 622 or by the D 4 between Labarthe-sur-Lèze and Lézat -Sur-Lèze.

The story of this parish Church Saint Sulpice began shortly after the Bastide foundation in 1257, and whose establishment is part of the latter. It was located outside the Bastide at the time of the construction of the fortified enclosure, around 1356.The church is from the 15-16C, restored in the 19C, in which were found murals of the 15C, This church is built in bricks, with a nef unique flanked by six chapels with five -sided apse. The western bell tower flanked by the chapel of the baptismal font is established on a square base, it rises on three polygonal stages, the last two of which are each filled with sixteen-point bays, framed by columns. Thirty-two heads of men and animals separate the floors. The upper part ends with a pyramidal arrow. At the base of this arrow, circulation goes around the bell tower. The walls of the northern chapels are long by a long cloister, built in the second quarter of the 19C.

Of these times only remain a few vestiges on the Church Saint Sulpice. This is evidenced by the lower part built in stone, as well as the first screw staircase integrated into a masonry leading on the first floor of the bell tower. It is at this level that there is a broken arc door which currently overlooks the void, just below the vaults of the nave, it is probably a vestige of previous constructions. In the second half of the 15C, the church was fully rebuilt in a southern Gothic style, with its remarkable dimensions, which can always be admired today. Polychrome murals were discovered in the third southern chapel in 1954. These are polychrome frescoes on lime plasters, devoted to the last judgment. These Gothic paintings dating from the 15C represent the entrance of the damned to hell, and the resurrection.

Other things to see here me think are the Hôtel de Ville or City hall from the 17C , It was a former mansion named the hotel of Boutaud, You will see that the interior is richly decorated between a majestic staircase, trompe-l’oeil frescoes, ceilings richly decorated with paintings and vegetable garlands, and half timbered houses from the 17C, In the arcades where you will take pleasure in walking sheltered from the rain or the sun. Parc Puybusque located right next to the city hall and the house with an attached wooden sides, it houses the old orangery. And has a remarkable tree ; the incredible centenary oak that sits, proud, in the middle

A bit of history tell us that Saint-Sulpice was an ancient Bastide of the 13C which owes its origin to Alphonse de Poitiers brother of Saint Louis and its prosperity at the commandery of the Order of Saint-Jean de Jerusalem founded in the 14C. It constitutes a privileged place of passage, at the crossroads of the road which links the region of Foix to the Toulouse crown, by the valley of the Lèze, This village kept from its rich past, the structure of Bastide with its streets cutting at corner right, but also beautiful constructions. The village is nicknamed the village with both mills, the Moulin de Pesquiès, and a water mill, Moulin des Burs.
