I like to tell you about a nice off the beaten path town very near the big metro of Bordeaux, This was a nice find in my road warrior mode on the other side of the great Gironde river Let me tell you a bit on this is Floirac !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The town of Floirac is located in the department of Gironde No, 33 in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of my belle France, Between Entre-deux-Mers, on the right bank of the Garonne, and next to the Bastide district, bordering Bordeaux. The town is 7 km from Bordeaux, 37 km from Saint Emilion, 71 km from Lacanau-Océan ; 93 km from Bergerac, 574 km from Versailles, and 487 km from my current home, The town can be reach by rocade or circular highway bordering the periphery of Bordeaux, the N230 at exits/sorties 22B Floirac – La Souys; 23 Floirac – Centre; and 24 Haut-Floirac. The D 936, makes it possible to reach the Entre-deux-Mers and towards the west like Bergerac from where we have come.
The Church Saint Vincent located at 49 avenue Jean Lassauguette is the main thing to see here me think and of course with more time, A bit of history tell us that the Church Saint Vincent remains today relatively not well known. It seems likely that it succeeded a first Merovingian sanctuary of which there is no trace. The construction of the current church began in the first half of the 12C, and seems to have limited itself to a single nave, followed by a triumphant arc, forming the choir and apse in hemicycle , vaulted. The current nave, which has three spans was fully rebuilt. However, the church falls slowly in ruins. On August 22, 1760 it was prohibited services because of the danger, The church was closed after the revolutionary period and appeared to be dilapidated when the ecclesiastical authorities decided to raise the church of its ruins in the first half of the 19C. In the period 1855 – 1869 ,the church was almost fully rebuilt, Outside, the western facade incorporates a neo-Gothic style bell tower. Its four levels of elevation include an ogival porch, an tribune lit by an oculus with a spiral filling, a bell chamber with four flamboyant bays garnished with lampshades and a last octagonal floor confined with pinacles used as the basis for an arrow with hooks.

The Church Saint Vincent nave is made up of three spans. The high altar is decorated with an arcature in which we find the polychrome figures of Christ surrounded by the four evangelists. The only vestiges of the Romanesque church inside are the capitals and the bases of the columns which frame the five berries of the apse , The painted murals, executed from 1866 to 1868 shows the seven scenes of the events of Mary’s life. Presentation of Jesus at the temple ; Joseph and Mary present Jesus to the old Syméon. Nativity: Birth in Bethlehem of Jesus of Nazareth. Adoration of shepherds is a biblical episode concerning the life of Jesus and taking place after the announcement to the shepherds of his birth. Virgin and child: painted around the triumphal arch. At the top the Virgin and Child in Majesty, on the north Arc, King David playing the harp, followed by two angels. On the southern arch, the prophet Isaiah holding a book, followed by two angels. Visitation of the Virgin Mary, pregnant with Christ, to her cousin Elizabeth, pregnant with John the Baptist. Marriage of the Virgin is an episode of the life of Mary and a theme of Christian iconography and Annunciation made to the Virgin Mary of her divine maternity by the Archangel Gabriel all murals done from 1860 and 1865 except ,the eighth, representing Saint Georges terraging the Dragon, dating from 1823, The scenes on the stained glass are represented by Martyr of Saint Laurent; Martyr of Saint Catherine;Presentation of Jesus to the temple; The kings mage;Saint Georges terraging the dragon; and Jesus and the Samaritan;Baptism of Christ.
Some other things to see here me think, with more time are the Bordeaux Observatory: founded in 1878 in Haut-Floirac, it has four mirrors, a 60 cm telescope, two radio stations as well as a library, The Parc du Castel, formerly Park Ledoux: was built in the 1820s in the center of a vineyard of Palus (red wine) which produced 15 tons in 1874. The cellars recall the wine past of this property. During WWII, the castle was occupied by nazis generals who built a bridge giving access to the DCA (anti-aircraft artillery). The estate was bought in 1959 by the town hall of Floirac. The park was set up pleasure walks by the town, The Plaza de Goya from a tubular metal structure, the Floirac arenas offered 7,136 places and measured 44 meters in diameter. They were considered the northern worlds bullfighting. The last representation of Tauromachie was given on September 24, 2006, The Domaine de Sybirol: located avenue Pierre-Sémirot, it was a house built between 1722 and 1728 surrounded by a park.
A bit of history I like on Floirac tell us that the poet Ausonne, in the 4C, confirms the existence of villas on the plateau of Entre-deux-Mers, one of them was located in the town of Floirac. A will, dated from the 7C, emanating from the bishop of Le Mans describes the villa of which he is the owner: homes, agricultural goods, the estate and all its dependencies. In the 16-17C, the wars of religion followed one another and affected the regional economy. It was not until the 18C for growth to resume but it will again be stopped by the French revolution.
