This was a memorable trip and always remembered, We went out to see Granville! I have found me older pictures in one cd rom and should be in my blog for you and me. This was one of my latest outings with my dear late wife Martine. The best part for us was the walk on the streets low town and high town both times moving our car; to be closer. The ambiance is turn of the century and rather chic; worth the detour Therefore, here is my take on curiosities of Granville, part IV !!! Hope you enjoy it as I
I had not been here in many many years and as always visiting Mont Saint Michel, we decided this time to visit Granville. We were glad we did, a nice town my family enjoyed even if very hilly. You need to concentrate in one area and then move on by car to the next one low town or high town (basse ville ou haut ville). Of course, we have been back couple times more, always worth it,
The Grand’porte is a door in Pont-Levis, which gives access to the Haute Ville or upper town in its fortified part. The large carriage door allowed the passage of cars on horseback. The small door, for pedestrians, also had a bridge. The ramparts established in the 15C during the foundation of the city were demolished in 1689. They were noted between 1727 and 1749. It was from this time that the current Grand’porte dates, as well as the King’s Logis above, actually Logis of the Governor of Granville.

This modern casino has a Restaurant Le Terra Nova, and Lu Purple Lounge bar, and a reception room. The style chosen for the design of the casino is a compromise between the fine arts architecture, whose academism often presents a certain drought, and the picturesque character specific to small Norman cities, very appreciated because deemed modern.
