This is Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil !!!

I came to Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil for a friend’s wine, and turn out to be a wonderful stop thereafter. This town proves again, the choices are endless and each time we enjoy a bit more of my belle France. Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil is located in the dept. no 37 of Indre et Loire in the Centre-Val de Loire region of my belle France. This small town is located on the road to the large castles of the valley of the kings such as Chenonceau, Villandry, etc. The town is located in Touraine Angevine, formerly Anjou, until the French revolution. Do see my other posts on the wine, this one will be in my black and white series, no pictures, Therefore, let me tell you a bit on this is Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil !!!  Hope you enjoy the post as I. In addition to its current Church Saint Nicolas ,built in 1834, the town housed some beautiful residences, all private property, including: Le Manoir du Port Guyet (1430) where Marie Dupin lived, muse of the poet Pierre de Ronsard; The Château du Port Guyet (1850); The manor of Vaux (16C – modified in the 19C); The Mansion de La Cotelleraie (16C – revised in the 19C), the Moulin de Nine (19C) and the Manor de La Contrie(19C) , Here developped an interesting game : The “Boule de Fort” game has been particularly developed in this region of Touraine Angevine in the 19C, and remains an extremely alive tradition in the town which offers two societies: « Le cercle du Bon Accord » and « Le cercle des Bons Amis ». It is practiced with a cormier wooden ball, circulated by iron, half-platform, equipped on a concave side “weak”, and with another “strong” convex, hence its name. The players then twirl these balls so characteristic on a curved track 25 meters long by 6 meters wide, and seek to reach the “master”, a small boxwood. “Cormier wood” and plastic coatings of the tracks replaced the clay sand in the region, curious walkers will be fascinated by the surprising ride of the balls and the friendly atmosphere of the two authentic societies. The town of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil is a high place of Loire viticulture. The best known wines are obviously the Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil (AOC) and the Bourgueil (AOC) which exist in red and rosé. However, other wines can be produced there like: Touraine, Crémant de Loire, IGP Val de Loire and Loire Rosé The agricultural and wine union of Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil was created in 1891 , and on July 31, 1937, Saint Nicolas obtained his AOC (appellation d’origine controllée) for its unique red wine from Cabernet Franc. In 1977 was created the brotherhood “The commandery of the Dive Bouteille de Bourgueil and Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil”. A bit of history I like tell us that from the beginning of the 4C, trade was done with the vines under the impetus of Saint Martin the “Saint winemaker”. Saint Nicolas depended on the abbey of Bourgueil founded in 987, Under the Ancien Régime (monarchy), the parish was part of the senechaussee of Saumur and the province of Anjou. In 1790, during the French revolution, the population demonstrated with those of Bourgueil for the maintenance of their village in the administrative jurisdiction of Saumur. The Constituent Assembly decided otherwise and the western part of Saumur (from Bourgueil to Gizeux) was detached from historic Anjou and attached to the brand new department of Indre-et-Loire, as well as the territory of Château-la-Vallière. also detached from Anjou. In 1790-1794, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil annexed the village of Taille. The current town of Saint-Nicolas was built in the center of the town under the July Monarchy.
