Hope you enjoy the post as I. The town of Moulis-en-Médoc is located in dept no, 33 of the Gironde, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of my France. The neighboring towns are Listrac-Médoc, Avensan, Castelnau-de-Médoc, Arcins, Lamarque, Sainte-Hélène and Soussans (see post). It is 7 km from Soussans, 40 km from Lacanau-Océan, 35 km from Bordeaux, 554 km from Versailles, and 467 km from my current home, I have come both from Versailles , Lacanau-Océan, and Pluvigner, Latest on N165, A83 past Nantes,to the A10 dir Bordeaux but cross the ferry in Blaye to over the Gironde river to port of Lamarque and D5 to Moulis en Médoc, The Church Saint-Saturnin rises on a Paleo-Christian site and constitutes a fine example of Romanesque art. This church is cited for the first time in 1268 in the feudorum in aquitania recognition, administrative texts of the Duke of Aquitaine, then king of England. It is dedicated to Saint Saturnin, the first bishop of Toulouse, who died martyred around 250. Archaeological excavations have exhumed sarcophagi dating from the first Christian ages, which would constitute one of the oldest testimonies of Christian penetration in the southwest of the France. Moulis ch Saint Saturnin front romanesque c2009 The Church Saint Saturnin built at the beginning of the 13C. The oldest parts, apse and choir, could date from the end of the 12C.The interest of the church lies mainly in the inner ornamentation of the bedside. The sculpture of capitals denotes oriental influences. 12C choir and transept, single nave; 13C, addition of the two aisles; 14C western facade; 2nd half 19C reshuffles. Moulis ch Saint Saturnin choir romanesque c2009 Other things to see here , me think and a must are that in the 14-15C at the top Medoc, the vine was established in the territories of the interior rather than in the edge of the estuary to avoid the misdeeds of the humidity of the river and the fogs which favored the rot and decimated the vineyard . The vineyard developed quickly in the 18C. The French revolution will bring a rough blow to the vineyard, but it will quickly get up to reach its peak at the end of the 19C with an area of 1,500 hectares, before undergoing the ravages of Phylloxera. (In 1866, it was found near Bordeaux, in the palus of Floirac); Moulis-en-Médoc is a town in viticultural Médoc with great reputation wines are produced which benefit from the name Moulis, one of the six municipal appellations of Haut-Médoc. Although forgotten by the 1855 ranking, the best properties of the appellation have made a name for themselves among the great wines of the Médoc, in particular thanks to the classification of bourgeois wines. Some of the best tasted by yours truly over the years have been the Château Anthonic, Château Biston-Brillette, Château Brillette, Château Chasse Spleen, Château Maucaillou, Château Pomeys and Château Poujeaux, The Château Maucaillou at 25, Route de la Gare offers a museum of art and vine and wine trades. The Moulin de Tiquetorte is located on the banks of the Moulis-en-Médoc Jalle. This old water mill always has its wheel. At the Maison du Vin de Moulis-en-Médoc is a good idea to stop by, where you are informed about the wines of the appellation and the oenotourism activities of the region, offers the sale of wines at the property price, a shop of local products and wine objects. It was located in the south and against the bedside of the current church. During the High Middle Ages, the center of the village was occupied by a vast necropolis, where we came to bury the dead from far away, reports popular memory. The so-called “Merovingian” sarcophagi that still rest in the basement of the church are the testimony. In the 10C, a very small new church, was built ,In the Middle Ages, the Médoc is one of the granaries of Bordeaux; The presence of many mills, to grind the grain, attests to it. It is from the term “mill” that Moulis probably takes its name Moulis, being located at the crossroads of two paths of Santiago de Compostela, saw the British, Norman and Breton pilgrims arrived in North Médoc, who joined Bordeaux, and those from the Way of Tours and Paris which, after having crossed the Gironde, won the coastal path or headed for Bordeaux.
