Some other things to see, me think are the Saint-Romain Church, Château Deyrem-Valentin, The Port of Soussans, which tells us the moving story of the island of Fumadelle attached to the coast. The marshes of Arcins-Soussans discover there a rich and varied heritage which abounds with species of animals and plants unique in their genres. From the observatory placed at the top of the observation tower, we can more easily observe them.
A bit of history I like tell us the parish of Soussans was part of the Moulis -Prêté de Moulis and depended on the Abbaye de Verteuil. Several lordships are attested over the centuries. The Dukes of Aquitaine are the lords of Soussans until 1098. On this date, Guillaume IX erected the lands of Soussans in lordship of High Nobility constituting a fief returning in prerogative to the lordship of Arnaud de Blanquefort his vassal. In 1245, the last descendant of Arnaud de Blanquefort decided to break down the lands of Soussans into three fiefs and instituted in lordship all of the rights attached to these lands. Were thus created the lordship of Bessan, the lordship of Labégorce, the lordship of Marsac , In 1623 Pierre de Mons gathered at that time the lordships of Soussans. Then, Marie-Catherine de Mons married in 1740 Jean Baptiste de Secondat de Montesquieu, son of the writer and Baron de la Brède and Montesquieu. The seconds then become lords of Soussans until the French revolution

Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The village of Soussans is located in the dept 33 of Gironde in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of my belle France. The village is located in Médoc, the production area of the Margaux appellation. The neighboring villages are Arcin, Avensan, Gauriac, Margaux-Cantenac, Moulis-en-Médoc, Plassac and Villeneuve. The main road D2 from Margaux and leading to Arcin goes through the town and the hamlet of Tayac. The D105 road leading to Avensan is another important axis. It is 3 km from Margaux, 46 km from Lacanau Océan, 37 km from Bordeaux, 554 km from Versailles, and 436 km from my current house, The road N165, A83, D137 dir La Rochelle, rocade A837 ,A10 dir Bordeaux, back on D137 to ferry in Blaye over the Gironde river to Lamarque then D5 to D2 to village, However, we went from Lacanau Océane our base on D6, D104E4; and D207 dir Castelnau de Médoc, and then dir Pauillac on D2 route de Pauillac.
Originally, the lordship of Bessan was founded by the rich Bordeaux family, the Colombs. At the feudal era, the lands of Soussans constituted a fief entirely placed under the jurisdiction of the lords of Blanquefort; Which depended on the king of England, and master of all of Aquitaine themselves. The Gascons books of the years 1288-1289 say that Jehan Colombs obtained from Henri III of England, the permission to build a strong house on the territory of the parish of Soussans. Erected in Bessan in 1252, the castle was made up of an enclosure around which the Testonne river flowed fueling three large ditches. Inside this enclosure was a courtyard surrounded by a moat and separated from the first ditch by a vallum, the importance of which can still be measured despite the trees and the coppices invading the premises. In this enclosure, the castle stood. Only the ruins of the dungeon remain from this strong house, nowadays under the name of the Tour Bessan. Apart from the church and a convent, it was the first important building that has marked the history of Soussans (see pic).
