Pierreclos is surrounded by vineyards and produces a quality wine. The Mâconnais located in the south of Burgundy produces mostly Chardonnay which provides 85% of production and large fruity white wines: Mâcon, Mâcon-Villages, Saint-Véran, Pouilly-Fuissé, Pouilly-Vinzelles, Pouilly-Loché, etc. At the castle ,you can taste wines here: Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran, Mâcon-Pierreclos and Rouge Rouge Pinot Noir and the Burgundian specialties (ratafia, vine and blackcurrant cream) at the shop or in the cellars, Also, a B& B with 3 rooms and 2 suites, Today welcomes various activities: wine estate (certified organic farming), weddings, receptions, guest rooms, historic visit and shop of regional products.
Other things to see here , me think are the Saint Martin Church: the first date of the 12C, at the castle, destroyed in 1562 (see above), The second, in place of the current spot, was closed around 1735, because it was threatening with collapse; The third and last was built from 1771 to 1779, on the model of the first. The church only had one bell at the beginning of the 18C.
A bit of history I like which closely relates to the castle tell us that the village of Pierreclos was known from the years 887-926 thanks to the Charters of Cluny. A chapel is mentioned from the middle of the 10C to the 11C, the Count of Mâcon gradually lost its sovereign power, The powerful abbeys of Cluny and Tournus as well as the canons of the Saint-Vincent Cathedral of Mâcon, held a lot of goods in 1422 , while Armagnacs and Burgundians compete, the first seizes the castle which will ultimately be taken up and returned to the Boutterans , Catherine de Boutterans combined in 1434 with Humbert de Rougemont, descendant of a chivalrous family from Bugey. Barely recovered from the terrible struggle with the Armagnacs, the castle had to face the bloody bruising bandits in 1437. In turn the lord of Pierreclos, Bussy and Bussières, Philibert de Rougemont, knight, second son of Humbert, sees his castle invaded and partly burned by the troops of Louis XI, entered in struggle with Charles le Téméraire, Duke of Burgundy, In 1471 it was the wars of religion that this time raged, and, in 1562, the castle was besieged, looted by the Protestants who made masters of Mâcon. Their passage also means the ruin of the church. Then, owned by a Lyon merchant in 1664, the estate was sold the following year, on January 28, 1665, to noble Jean-Baptiste Michon, squire, advisor and prosecutor of the king at the Finance bureau of the Generality of Lyon, from the Lyon branch of a family from Paris. Later, the lord of the castle underwent three successive attacks during the great fear of July 1789 in the French revolution. Three days in a row, on July 27, 28 and 29, the castle was taken by storm by high -coated bands which made many damage, breaking and stealing everything in their path, The then owners, Benoît-Guillaume, striped from the list of emigrants, having died in 1809, his domains were sold from 1817 for the benefit of his creditors , Pierreclos was acquired on August 1, 1829 by Jacques Chaland, de Saint-Chamond. His heirs will have the domain until 1909. In 1909 and until WWII, the castle belonged to the Darnat, from Lyon, then to Mr. Fouilloux who welcomed the holiday campers of Aubervilliers in the 1970s.1989: The castle belongs to the Pidault family, which restored it and made it visible for visits as of today.

Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The village of Pierreclos is located in the dept no 71 of Saône-et-Loire, in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of my belle France. One of the most beautiful village in France, It is 12 km from Mâcon, 55 km from Buxy (our home base), 104 km from Beaune, 418 km from Versailles, and 761 km from my current house, We were on A6 to N79 by Mâcon, then D45.
The Château de Pierreclos has a nice entrance at the end of an alley paved with a hedgehog, a grid, between two small pavilions covered with imperial roofs gives access to a pre-courtyard that a vaulted passage, served by a semicircular door , surmounted by coat of arms of the Michon family, separates from the courtyard of the castle. Buildings surround it on both sides with standing high square tower crowned with the consoles of a walkway against it, a rectangular building. It includes, on its western facade, a square tower and flanked on an angle of a large square tower, confined to round scalable on faces built in the 19C. This tower is wearing a roof in a pavilion. The main building in the main return has two square floors whose covers have been very altered. The commons and the remains of an old church in the second half of the 12C, of which only the bell tower and the choir remain, complete the whole. The castle is a private property, but is open to the public.
