This is La Roche sur Yon !!!

We have driven in the area and would like to have an imprint in my blog on the wonderful towns of my belle France, There is so much to see , doing my best, and glad found me these older paper pictures which now transposing in my blog for you and me, The pictures are old ,so the quality may not be as good ,but the memories are forever, Therefore, here is my take on this is La Roche sur Yon  !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I. The City of La Roche-sur-Yon is located in the dept no 88 of Vendée,in the Pays de la Loire region of my belle France, It is 70 km from Nantes, 77 km from La Rochelle, 424 km from Paris, and 215 km from my house, It has a good road network, organized as a star around the City ,which is ,therefore at the crossroads of several departmental routes ; naming the main ones for me ,such as the RD 160: Les Sables-d’Olonne ↔ La Roche-sur-Yon ↔ Cholet, Angers, Saumur; The RD 937: Nantes ↔ La Roche-sur-Yon; The RD 948: Noirmoutier, Challans ↔ La Roche-sur-Yon ↔ Bournezeau, Fontenay-le-Comte, Niort. La Roche-sur-Yon is also served by an autoroute or highway, the A87 (Angers ↔ La Roche-sur-Yon): exit 30 La Roche-sur-Yon is linked Angers to La Roche-sur-Yon via Cholet. This highway is connected to the A11, making it possible to directly link Paris to the Vendée, Other sorties or exits are 32 La Roche-sur-Yon Sud, the 31 La Roche-sur-Yon Centre, and 33 La Roche-sur-Yon Ouest. We have made several entries here but on the road warrior hit and run quicks in and out or as a rest stop, Seen a bit ,the reason of this post. The Saint-Louis Church built in several stages from 1809 to 1829 and from 1850 to 1859, it was devoted under the term of Saint-Louis in 1830. The church was the largest religious building of Vendée. Located in the heart of the Pentagon, on the Place Napoleon, this church was built under the model of ancient basilicas with a neo-classical exterior architecture which is highlighted by its withdrawal from the Place Napoleon. In particular, it houses a Virgin and Child, a 14C polychrome statue representing Notre-Dame de la Roche. On the bays of the aisles, the forty evangelical scenes represented in a Flamboyant Renaissance style have the particularity of showing Christ dressed in blue, white, and red, a very rare color association in the iconography of the stained-glass windows. Thus, this characteristics would make the Saint Louis Church , a Republican (aka revolutionary) church! La Roche sur Yon ch Saint Louis front c2009 Other things to see here, me think with more time are : The abbey of Fontenelles, in Fontenelles, built from 1210 on the outskirts of the city for the thermal virtues of the site. The Church of the Sacred Heart, rue Blériot, its construction, located in the district of the same name, was thought during the Great War or WWI and was inaugurated on November 13, 1927, The church that we currently see was completed in 1965, The Municipal Museum, built in 1877, has a rich collection made up of its three areas of predilections that are painting and graphic arts since the 19C, and contemporary photography. Centre Beautour of the Naturalist and Vendée politician Georges Durand , the renaissante house was organized around a house built in 1861. On the death of Georges Durand in 1964, the site of 230 hectares and the collections ( 150,000 insects and 4,000 birds) are bequeathed to the National Museum of Natural History. Beyond the entertainment, events offered, the Centre Beautour presents a permanent and temporary exhibitions .The Maison Renaissance house presents an architecture oscillating between medieval style and ornaments from the Renaissance. The house is now occupied by a center of interpretation on the history and town planning of La Roche-sur-Yon , The Théâtre built in 1845, is a typical example of the 18-19C. It was fully restored in 2005. Built in 1843 in a 4.5 hectare wooded park with a very orderly architecture (neo-classic), the national and departmental stud farm (Haras) in La Roche-sur-Yon was designed to accommodate 200 stallions . It is gear to tourism, equine reproduction and species conservation. A bit of history I like tell us that the City of La Roche-sur-Yon owes its current physiognomy to Napoleon I, which makes a small town a modern city, based on a regular plane in the form of a pentagon and endowed with imposing public buildings (prefecture, town hall, theater, courthouse, high school, Saint-Louis Church, etc.) spread around a large central esplanade ,Place Napoleon. The city was founded by imperial decree on May 25, 1804 ,and Place Napoleon is one of the largest public squares in France. Its important elements is: the Saint-Louis Church ; The large inn where Napoleon was received on August 8, 1808; the city hall (1810); The equestrian statue of Napoleon (1854); The former courthouse (1815); and the imperial high school (1815). Going further back in the 11C, Guillaume Le Grand, count of Poitiers and Duke of Aquitaine, undertook to reorganize the defense of the Bas-Poitou, choosing as the main point of support the site of Talmont and as a rear base La Roche-sur-Yon , The old caslte passed from hand to hand. It belongs to the Beauvau family in the 15C before moving to that of the Bourbon in 1454 during the marriage of Isabelle de Beauvau, lady of La Roche-sur-Yon, with Jean VIII de Bourbon, count of Vendôme. In the 16C, the city became a principality in the hands of the Bourbon-Montpensier, then of the Dukes of Orleans, The city castle was besieged and taken over to the English by Olivier de Clisson during the Hundred Years War. It is partly destroyed during the wars of religion that shook Poitou and finally burnt down during the Vendée wars of the west against the French revolution. In 1793, northern Vendée revolted against the Republic, the city remained republican but, on March 14, 1793, the Vendean patriots took the city. After the Vendée wars and the passage of the infernal columns, the city was only a small bourg largely destroyed. During the period of WWII, the city was subject to the Nazis occupation as of June 22, 1940. On September 17, 1944, the city was liberated, and the festivities were organized on the streets, The City of La Roche sur Yon on its history : https://larochesuryon.fr/la-roche-sur-yon/ The La Roche sur Yon tourist office on its heritage : https://www.destination-larochesuryon.fr/en/the-rock-on-yon/XNUMXth-century-monuments/ The Vendée dept 85 tourist office on La Roche sur Yon : https://www.in-vendee.com/24-hours-la-roche-sur-yon There you go folks, a dandy area to explore and enjoy with the family, Memorable moments in my belle France, driving all over in my road warrior trails brings out sublime awesome spots with nice memorable family visits of yesteryear always remember and always looking forward to be back, eventually.
