The Church Saint-Hilaire of Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët  !!!

This one was a while back in my road warrior tours of the Norman valleys of my belle France I, again, found me believe much older paper pictures that should be in my blog, glad to have found them, I have been all over France, but sometimes just touch base ,go on the run and lucky to be able to come back to many, but still work to do. Let me tell you about the Church Saint-Hilaire of Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët  !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I. The town of Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët is, since January 1, 2016, a new town located in the department of Manche no 50 in the Normandie region of my belle France, it comes from the grouping of three towns: the former Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët , Saint-Martin-de-Landelles, and Virey , The town is located at the confluence of three regions, Normandie, Bretagne, and the Pays de la Loire. It is 25 km from Avranches, 28 km from Fougères, 35 km from Mont Saint Michel, 79 km from Rennes, and 219 km from my house, The Church Saint-Hilaire is dedicated to Saint Hilaire, bishop of Poitiers in the 4C. It replaces the old church of Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët dating from the 11C and of which only the bell tower remains. It occupied the site of the old castle raised in the 11C on the order of Robert, count of Mortain and half-brother of William the Conqueror, A real emblem of Saint-Hilaire, it is visible several km around. Saint Hilaire du Harcouët cathedral de Saint Hilaire c2008 The new church was built between 1846 with the first stone blessed on June 4 and its consecration on May 22, 1873 in a plan and a neo-Gothic architecture like the tower which stands on each side of the facade around 1880, The altars of the Sacred Heart and Saint-Joseph were done about same time, The town of Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët was ravaged by the Allied bombings of June 15, 1944, Large diaphragm arches replace the false Gothic vaults and the ceiling presents square boxes. The hemycircular bedside features four ribs resting on a terminal arc diaphragm, The stained glass windows made in 1953, the statues, the high altar and the crèche too. The frieze continues on the way of the cross in the sanctuary with white tunic ,as in the alleys of Jerusalem, and the frescoes of the transept and the nave were executed between 1954 and 1964 as the altar, the hanging, the furniture of the sacristy, the tabernacle, the confessionals, and the stalls, in link with the canon of Brix. On August 2, 1952, the four recounded bells were blessed by Mgr Jean Guyot who, on August 7, devoted the major altar. That same day, the other three altars are devoted in the presence of a large clergy and a considerable crowd of faithful. The two clocks of the bell towers are copies of those who disappeared in the fire in June 1944; They were produced in 1994 on the 50th anniversary of the Normandy landing.
