This one was a while back in my road warrior tours of the east south of my belle France I, again, found me older glossy paper pictures that should be in my blog, glad to have found them, even if not the best quality… I have been all over France, but sometimes just touch base ,go on the run and lucky to be able to come back to many, but still work to do. Let me tell you about the Château de Fléchères of Fareins !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I. The château de Fléchères is a castle of the 17C, of the lordship then of the barony of Fléchères, which stands in the Dombes on the territory of the town of Fareins, in the department of Ain, no 01 in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region , 8 km from Villefranche-sur-Saône, 39 km from Mâcon (our intended route), and 39 km from Lyon . It succeeds an old 13C fortified mansion. The castle has retained elements of the medieval plan with its four square corner towers, large ditches with moats, which a stone bridge that precedes the entrance to the commons whose facade has kept the maneuvering slots At the rear of the house, the wings are extended by two square towers, protruding, which allows the opening of a window on each of the four faces. The castle once opened to the south on a French garden with a monumental basin and fountain. You can notably admire the sculpted monumental chimneys, the apartment with the Louis XV woodwork, the empty cage staircase and the old kitchens. In 1632, the painter Pietro Ricchi, decorated a set of rooms of the castle including that of the work of Hercules, the parade, castles, perspectives or the chamber of virtues or the anteroom of the hunting, a pictorial unit unrequivalent set In France. Château de Fléchères front c2008 The composition of the main building, with a large building of three floors framed by small wings, is surprising. It is explained by the presence of a Calvinist temple of 250 m² on the third floor of the central building, lit by seven windows on each facade. After the Edict of Nantes (1595), the number of temples was strictly limited but the nobles could have a “fief temple” in one of their lordships. As no outside sign was authorized, the three skylights in the south and north have an unusual magnitude in order to symbolize the Holy Trinity. Leaving to God the place of honor, the apartments are confined to the small wings and in the towers. A bit of history tell us the Palatins of Riottiers, put in Chabeu’s house by 1246. Thereafter, Fléchères passed, by alliances of the women to different families for many years, The chapel of the castle was visited, in 1654, by the Archbishop of Lyon, which administered there, on September 22 of this year, the sacrament of confirmation. Under the French revolution, the building did not have too much to suffer, but a fire which occurred in 1793 affected the roofs of the commons and made disappear some elements of furniture as well as the archives. In 1820, a landscaped park was arranged. In the early 1980s, the castle was almost abandoned and following numerous flights, including part of the original prosecution, found since 1998 and for a period of five years, a large restoration campaign of the castle and its gardens. The castle is nowadays open to the public for visits; It is the largest castle in the vicinity of Lyon. In 1968, Le Diable par la queue (The Devil by the Tail) by Philippe de Broca with Yves Montand, Jean Rochefort; In March 2012, it also served the shooting of La Religieuse (The Nun) a film by Guillaume Nicloux with Isabelle Huppert and Louise Bourgoin.
