Again, this is a memorable post on wonderful architecturally and historical town, I am glad to find me another picture and combining it with one in older post created this post unique worth it for this church in beautiful Chinchon, in the Comunidad de Madrid ,and in the kingdom of Spain, Thanks for those who have follow me thru the years , appreciated. The Convent of the Immaculate Conception, aka the Convent of the Poor Clares, is located on Calle Abapies. It was founded in 1653 by the 5th Count of Chinchón, Don Francisco Faustino Fernández de Cabrera y Bobadilla, as a cloistered monastery linked to the comital lineage. The architectural complex is in a Herrerian Baroque style, characterized by its sober and refined lines. The entrance to the church is on one side with a stone lintelled doorway, a brick niche, and the coat of arms of the Counts. This coat of arms is repeated above the entrance to the cloister from the courtyard It comprises a single-nave church and the convent, organized around a two-story cloister with semicircular arches. Inside, it houses the Mausoleum of the 5th Count of Chinchón, located in the choir loft, the altarpiece of the Divine Shepherd, and a valuable silver tabernacle, all pieces of considerable artistic interest. The convent is also known for its artisanal production of traditional sweets, including doughnuts, muffins, pastries, and the popular “nun’s breasts,” which can be purchased through the convent’s revolving window.

The Convento de las Madres Clarisas or the Convent of the Poor Clares ; tell us the history of it that when Don Andrés de Cabrera and Doña Beatriz de Bobadilla arrived in Chinchón, they built a palace to live in, a fortress castle to defend their dominion, and also, as good Christians, they founded a monastery that they entrusted to the Order of Saint Augustine. Furthermore, they expressed their desire to also found a convent for nuns. It was, therefore, the 3rd Count of Chinchón, Don Diego Fernández Cabrera Bobadilla, and his wife Doña Inés Pacheco, daughter of the Marquises of Villena, who made their ancestors’ wish come true, although it was not until the 5th Count of Chinchón, Don Francisco Fausto Fernández de Cabrera y Bobadilla, who finally completed it.

The construction began in 1597, but there is a discrepancy in the date of the completion of the convent. Several chroniclers place it in 1663, although according to another, it occurred ten years earlier. According to my book source, which may be more reliable, on October 28, 1653, the Count elected Juana de la Santísima Trinidad as his first abbess. Juana Fernández de Pacheco y de Portugal, a native of Escalona, ​​daughter of the Marquises of Villena, granddaughter of the Infantes of Portugal, and cousin of the founding counts, who had professed at the Convent of the Descalzas Reales (see post) in Madrid in 1617.

Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
