Let me take you on a brief tour of two other parks which found me pictures in my cd rom vault to show in my blog for you and me, Madrid is invigorating to the soul, active, modern, no taboos, free, open, lively, enthusiastic , and welcoming, its Madrid , all worth it a million times. I will show you here a bit on the Atenas and Emir parks of Madrid !!! Hope you enjoy them as I.
The Parque de Atenas , formerly known as Campo de la Tela is a green space located near the Royal Palace of Madrid. Its original name, Campo de la Tela, comes from its use as a venue for jousts and tournaments during the reign of Felipe II. It was declared a park in 1971. It is divided in two by the Paseo de la Ciudad de Plasencia. It is bordered by the Campo del Moro Gardens, by Calle de Segovia , Cuesta de la Vega, and the Paseo de la Virgen del Puerto. It is accessible from most of its perimeter. In its northern half there is a small pond with four vertical jets, as well as sports and children’s areas. I don’t believe have mention it before but is worth the stop on Terraza de Atenas located within Parque de Atenas, this terrace offers high-quality cocktails and gins in a privileged and tranquil setting surrounded by nature. Situated next to the Cuesta de la Vega, with stunning views of the Almudena Cathedral and Atenas Park, it is one of Madrid’s iconic spots to enjoy the outdoors and good company around a table. Indeed.

In 1590, King Felipe (Philip) II bought the land occupied by the current park to hold tournaments between knights, as well as jousting tournaments. From the 18C until the 19C, it became a useless sandy area. In 1971, it was urbanized and given the new name of Parque de Atenas (Athens) in honor of the city where Queen Sofia was born. You can reach in by metro line 5 La Latina station, and lines 2, 5 ,and Radial on Opéra station, Also, on bus lines 3 , 31 , 41 , 50 , 65 , and 148
The Parque de Mohamed I aka Emir Mohamed I is located in the barrio or neighborhood of Palacio of the Centro district, and was developed as a public space with a simple Andalusian-style garden. It is dedicated to Muhammad I of Córdoba, considered the founder of the city as Mayrit as a military enclave between 860 and 880. Inaugurated in 2010, the park follows part of the Cuesta de la Vega, next to the Almudena Cathedral. The six-pointed star-shaped fountain stands out as the park’s centerpiece. A flowerbed runs along the wall, and in addition to the cypress trees, a hackberry tree and a fig tree are among the oldest trees. I have written as a post on the muralla Arabe or Arab Wall showing what is considered the foundation of Madrid ,then known as Mayrit in the 9C, when the Emir Mohamed I ordered the construction of a high overlook tower where today sits the Royal Palace.
