The streets of Trouville sur Mer !!!

This another of the Norman riviera town very chic nice and great beaches for a nice summer resort, even if still glitzy. We came here first on our road warrior trips between Honfleur and Deauville and found Trouville sur Mer very nice. The town is  in dept Calvados 14 region of Normandie, and in my belle France. I took some leisure ride by city center and glad now found me a picture in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, Therefore, let me tell you a bit more on the streets of Trouville sur Mer !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

I came in by the port area into the Bd Fernand Moureaux , right passing the Marche aux poissons or fish market and the Office De Tourisme as well as the hôtel de ville, They have put back by the port the anchor a symbol of the City on the Rond-Point Fernand-Moureaux, The Boulevard Fernand Moureaux turns its back on the English Channel, yet it is a hyperactive and lively artery of Trouville sur Mer, on the banks of the Touques. There are restaurants and the City/Town Hall. Buildings also display typical Norman half-timbering construction. You have above ground parking at 170 Boulevard Fernand Moureaux Port Littoral-Ville Nord.

I could not find me a picture but I know I went in and the main thing to see in this area, the fish market ,just to the right of the pic below.  In 1825, at the confluence of the Touques and the Callenville stream, Trouville was a modest fishing port, organized around five oyster beds, The hamlet of Hennequeville, facing the sea, extended around the place called “La Chapelle”. It was in 1847 that these two fishing villages merged to give birth to Trouville-sur-Mer. Today, the town retains its old-world charm with over 2 km of picturesque alleys and passages forming a veritable labyrinth. These alleys are home to narrow fishermen’s houses, often spread over three or four stories. Some fishing families, present for more than four generations, continue to keep the tradition alive in the port. The arrival of the D16 road linking Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives to the sea via Pont-l’Évêque led to the construction, in 1842, of a 450 meters retaining wall, wide enough to accommodate the first fish market in 1843. The famous Marché aux Poissons or Fish Market, open year-round, offers a colorful spectacle with its nine stalls where you can taste these treasures of the sea directly. Originally made of wood and then replaced by a metal structure, the neo-Norman style fish market only arrived in 1936, The building is constructed of reinforced concrete using the Hennebique process but with marked neo-Norman characteristics. After a fire in 2006, it was rebuilt identically and inaugurated in 2011. Catch of the day be there Monday to Friday: 5h to 19h. Saturday: 8h to 13h, Market days: until 13h.

Fernand Moureaux was a French entrepreneur and politician. He created the Suze, an aperitif, with Henri Porte. He was also known as mayor of Trouville-sur-Mer. In 1885, he inherited the family distillery, which was then on the verge of bankruptcy. In partnership with Henri Porte, he relaunched it by creating a new gentian-based aperitif, the Suze. It earned him re-election four times, until 1951. He was named an Officer of the Legion of Honor by decree of February 4, 1949.
