The Parc Gustave Eiffel of Levallois-Perret !!!

I came here first on business and discovered one of the off the beaten path of the Île de France region and just over the Seine river, There were memorable times and of course took the family here too for sights and eat out, there are still many places where they don’t show up at least not much in my belle France. Levallois-Perret is in the Hauts-de-Seine dept 92 of the Île de France region of my belle France, I, once again in my diehard search found me pictures in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, Therefore, let me tell you a bit on the Parc Gustave Eiffel of Levallois-Perret !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Parc Gustave Eiffel is a beautifully flowered and manicured park,a verdant oasis that captivates visitors with its serene beauty and rich history. I should had visited more but,,, This picturesque park covers an area of nearly 20 hectares. Lawns, winding paths, and an abundance of mature trees create a peaceful atmosphere, inviting visitors to stroll, jog, or simply relax and enjoy the tranquility. At the heart of the park, a charming pond is home to a variety of waterfowl, including graceful swans and playful ducks. The serene waters of the pond also reflect the surrounding greenery, creating a picturesque scene that seems to transport visitors to another time and place. The origins of Parc Gustave Eiffel date back to the late 19C, when it was first created as a private garden for the Château de la Planchette. Over time, the park evolved, becoming a public space that witnessed the city’s transformation and growth. Visitors can discover remnants of this history, such as the ornate wrought iron gates that still bear witness to the park’s past. One of the park’s most notable features is the Château de la Planchette itself, a grand 19C mansion that now houses a cultural center. This beautifully preserved building serves as a reminder of Levallois-Perret’s heritage, inviting visitors to explore its architecturally significant pieces and learn more about the city’s rich history. You can get here on Metro line 3 nearest stop Louison Bobet. It’s a 5-minute walk or take bus 20 at Place de la République or Gare Saint Lazare in Paris to the near park.

Fitting worth mentioning on this post of his name that it was in Levallois-Perret, in the former workshops of the Gustave Eiffel & Cie company, that the legendary Eiffel Tower was built. All the pieces of this monumental work were designed, built, and prepared there by nearly 400 workers before being transported to the Paris site. One month after the Eiffel Tower’s inauguration, the city of Levallois-Perret renamed Rue Fouquet, the headquarters of the workshops, Rue Gustave-Eiffel. The engineer is buried in the city cemetery, in a tomb facing the tower. He is closely linked to Levallois Perret. Upon the creation of the city in the 19C, he established the workshops of the Gustave Eiffel & Cie company there, Now gone, it is still possible to visit the site, now known as Square Gustave Eiffel, and admire the murals and trompe l’oeil works representing the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty and the Garabit viaduct that border the park. Levallois-Perret was also the first city to name a street “Gustave Eiffel”, during the engineer’s lifetime. The latter, also a municipal councilor for the city for 12 years, is buried in the Rue Baudin cemetery, in a tomb facing its tower.

I would add here as well the personalities buried in Levallois-Perret other than the Gustave Eiffel’s tomb, the only one not aligned with the others. It faces “his” tower, are the revolutionary Louise Michel, the composer Maurice Ravel, the generous Marie-Jeanne Bassot, founder of the Résidence sociale, but also Madame Soleil, who achieved fame with her radio forecasts, and Léon Zitrone, the famous journalist specializing in sports and royal weddings.
