I have posts on the wonderful Garden State of New Jersey in my blog, and several cities dear to me, However, I missed this memorable Newark, After all, as said, this is my life’s history !! I found me picture in my cd rom vault that made me do this post for you and me, Awesome memories that brings my life to lighter days of youth, Therefore, here is my take on this is Newark, NJ !!! Hope you enjoy the posts as I
The City of Newark, located in Essex County, State of New Jersey, USA, and is part of the New York City metropolitan area, It is about 14 miles from Manhattan (NYC). 7 miles from Elizabeth, 59 miles from Trenton (State capital), 86 miles from Philadelphia and 21 miles from my former town of Perth Amboy along the I 95 highway dir NYC and getting off at exit 13A dir EWR airport first onto the Route 1 and 9 and continue to airport
The main highways are the New Jersey Turnpike (Interstate 95), Interstate 280, Interstate 78, the Garden State Parkway, U.S. Routes 1 and 9, U.S. Route 22, (all taken) ,and Route 21. Newark is connected to the Holland Tunnel and Lower Manhattan by the Pulaski Skyway.-both taken) Newark Penn Station, (never took) located just east of the city center, is a major transportation hub for the city and the surrounding region, connecting the PATH system (which links Newark to Manhattan) with three lines of the New Jersey Transit system and Amtrak to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
This was the City I played semipro soccer/football and came to do my first job outside of the family at EWR Newark Liberty International airport with a company now gone called Butler Aviation, As the saying, the first is always memorable ! Pictures were none of those days but with one will do justice to Newark, All many memories to really never forget , and never have, From the tourist point of view one interesting place to visit is the Newark Museum with a significant art collection, including a Tibetan department considered one of the finest in the world.
Then, way back in 2007 a group decided to do the 30th anniversary of our Perth Amboy High School (see post) , I had all my package done with a Holiday Inn Hotel by Woodbridge township, the flight from Paris CDG to EWR and the Hertz car rental I took, at the Newark Liberty Internatinal airport (see pic) which is only about a 30 minute car ride to my old town of Perth Amboy (see posts) , The sad story is the event was cancelled last minute for lack of participation I was told, In order not to lose all the money I decided with my dear late wife Martine support to go anyway and do some shopping for the boys, which I did,After all the trip was very sentimental driving around the old parts of my early youth in NJ USA ! Memories forever,

And for reference EWR has several connections to the airport are available by Air Train, Amtrak, NJ TRANSIT Rail and Bus, Go Bus, Taxi, Car Service, the perfect place to rent a car. There are over 30 airline carriers operating out of Newark Liberty International Airport. On Terminal A some known to me :Air Canada, American, Southwest, US Airways On Terminal B some known to me :British Airways, Delta Lufthansa SAS Singapore Airlines TAP Portugal, On terminal C United and United Express, Luggage Storage : Located between Carousels 5 & 6 at the Arrival Level in Terminal C , Car Rentals: Free transportation is provided via AirTrain for rental car offices located at EWR. P2: Budget & Dollar and P3: Avis, Enterprise, Hertz & National, Ten minutes of travel time will get you from EWR to Newark Penn Station via AirTrain and NJ TRANSIT. The AirTrain monorail stops at all airline terminals and operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
A bit of history I like tell us that Newark was founded in 1666 by Puritans from Connecticut (state) led by Robert Treat, who came from the New Haven Colony. The town was initially governed by a theocratic assembly of faithful until the arrival of newcomers. On October 31, 1693, it was reorganized as a township of New Jersey, founded on the land of Newark, which was first purchased on July 11, 1667. Newark was recognized by a royal charter on April 27, 1713. On February 21, 1798, Newark was recognized by the Township Act of 1798 of the New Jersey Legislature as one of the first 104 townships of New Jersey. Newark was again recognized as a city on April 11, 1836, following a referendum held on March 18, 1836.
