There you go had pictures mix in another post and it should be in one , me think, This is a real off the beaten path village we passed by on our road warrior trails, to visit some friends we had met near our town, It gave me the opportunity to see this village and others along the ways, A nice quant village of Le Loreur of a memorable moments , Therefore, let me tell you my take on this is Le Loreur !! Hope you enjoy the post as I
The village of Le Loreur is located in the Manche department no 50 in the Normandie region of my belle France, It has a population of 258 persons, It is 22 km from Coutances, 16 km from Granville, 19 km from Villedieu-les-Poêles, and 24 km from Avranches. Le Loreur is situated at the intersection of two roads. The first D35 runs from Le Repas to Cérences , and the second D20 runs from Bréhal to Le Mesnil-Rogues, We were in our road warrior trail from Avranches on the N175 highway towards Aubigny getting on the D7 road dir La Haye Pesnel after which it becomes the D35 road to Le Loreur on Rue de la Liberté,
Le Loreul is a country village where we were to meet our hosts big horse lovers and famous in France, for privacy won’t mention name but he is a winner of the prix d’Amérique horse races and others. We went for a private visit with the family and it was nice. Memories forever ! We took a quick walk over to the church
The Church Notre Dame from the 18C features a square tower topped with a gabled roof and a sundial in the church wall. It houses a 14C Virgin and Child, statues of a 19C bishop saint and Saint Charles Borromeo, a 19C painting of the Assumption, a 19-20C stained-glass window, a large 17C crucifix, and a coat of arms panel in the apse. The tower is square and topped with a gabled roof. The chancel was rebuilt in the 17C, The nave, chapels, sacristy, and bell tower were built between 1715 and 1719. The church belongs to the parish of Notre-Dame-de-l’Espérance (Our Lady of Hope) in the deanery of the Pays de Granville-Villedieu.

Other thing to see here is the Chapelle- Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire or Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary. Every August 15th, it hosted pilgrimages with a procession and the distribution of blessed bread.
A bit of history I like tell us that at the end of the 17C or beginning of the 18C, Luc Le Boucher, son of Jean Le Boucher de Vallesfleurs, Lord of Vallesfleurs and Gatigny (Saint-Pair-sur-Mer), advisor to the King, Viscount of Granville, and perpetual mayor of Granville from 1692 to 1743, was titled Lord of Loreur. Jacques Asselin in the 17C and his son, Jean-Baptiste in the 18C, were both Lords of Ravenoville and Loreur, and served in the King’s Guard of Gendarmes and were made Knights of Saint Louis. The village was attached to the canton of Cérences during the French revolution. Under the monarchy, this parish was part of the archdeaconry of Coutances or the Christian community and deanery of Saint-Pair. in 1789, the parish was under the jurisdiction of the Drouard sergeantry, the Coutances election district, and the Caen generality. The parish was under the jurisdiction of the bailiwick of Coutances and the Grand Bailiwick of Cotentin. The parish was part of the castellany of Hambye. From 1803 until 1820, the parish was annexed to Bourey. It was re-established as a branch parish by an ordinance of January 12, 1820. The last resident priest was Father Mathurin Pellé. Between 1920 and 1925, the parish administration was handled by the priest of Saint-Sauveur-la-Pommeraye.
