The Caveau des Vignerons d’Amboise !!!

This site brings back many memorable moments in my family’s road warrior trips in our belle France. I have taken a couple pictures from other posts to condense into one this memorable spot in lovely Amboise, that is in the Centre Val de Loire region of my belle France, I am not going to repeat my resume/CV on wines as plenty written in my blog. I am just will do justice to a property that has been our stop each time in town for many years and continue to amaze us on taste, price and just plain good winemakers friends. I am going to take you into the underbelly of the castle for a wonderful wine experience. Therefore, here is my take on the Caveau des Vignerons d’Amboise !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I,

The Caveau des Vignerons d’Amboise is located at 1 Place Michel Debré on the wall of the Royal Castle of Amboise ! Celebrating its 41st anniversary in 2025, the Caveau des Vignerons is a showcase of local wines for locals and tourists strolling through Place Michel-Debré. It’s one of the most picturesque spots in Amboise and a showcase of the wines of the Touraine region. It opened in 1984,and since then has been offering locals/visitors the wines of local winemakers in the cool shade of the royal castle walls, which own the premises. It comprises between twenty-five and ten associated winemakers.

In 1984 the wine cellar was then managed by winegrowers from the Wine Syndicate, The tasting room showcases the products of around twenty-five winegrowers from the Touraine-Amboise appellation area. Visitors can find white, rosé, red, and sparkling wines made using the traditional method. A complimentary tasting is offered with a smile. Indeed have been coming here for several years, this time passed by but all the wines are tops recommended. Seven winemakers, a winery offering direct sales from the estate, featuring wines from the local appellations: Touraine-Amboise, Touraine, and Crémant de Loire, providing a wide range of white, red, rosé, and sparkling wines. It’s a wine shop, but also a wine bar. Open Friday and Saturday from 10h to 18h30 and Sunday 10h to 17h30.

The Caveau des Vignerons d’Amboise are winemakers from the Touraine-Amboise appellation who have decided to come together in an unusual location in the heart of Amboise, within troglodytic cellars carved beneath the château. The vineyards, like the cellars of Amboise, invite you to taste the region’s wines. The climate and clay-limestone soils favor the development of the grape varieties. Chenin Blanc is used for white wines, while Gamay and Cabernet Sauvignon produce the red wines. The colors range from yellow to a deep, powerful red. Before you even taste your wine, your nose will offer aromas of fresh fruit and citrus in the youth of the white wines. A little older, you’ll detect notes of honey and quince. The red wines have pronounced red fruit notes. Finally, during this wine tasting in Amboise, your palate will savor the delicate roundness of the white wines, while a touch of tannin balances the reds.

The difference between a cave à vin or wine cellar and a caveau à vin or wine vault is that a vault is a small cellar. The difference between the two terms therefore relates to the size of the spaces.
