The Church Saint Pierre of Montfort l’Amaury , part II !!!

This is a nice town and a wonderful off the beaten path visits to Montfort L’Amaury. I like to tell you more as found me older pictures in my cd roms that should be in my blog for you and me. When I was in Versailles, I came often to his town and walking all over it, and family lunches. It is 28 km from Versailles, For info, Montfort L’Amaury is in the Yvelines  dept 78 of the Île de France region of my belle France. Therefore, let me tell you a bit more on the Church Saint Pierre of Montfort l’Amaury , part II !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I,

This medieval city extends at the foot of the ruins of its fortified castle. Born with the Capetians, the city is deeply linked to the history of France. Its narrow cobbled streets and its historic monuments offer a panorama of 1,000 years of history. Its charm and its art of living have always attracted artists. Its historical and cultural importance, its monuments such as the Maison-Museum Maurice Ravel, Church Saint-Pierre,  Anne de Bretagne, ramparts, etc are gorgeous,(see posts).

The wonderful impressive by its size and the size of the town is the Church Saint Pierre (St Peter) from the 15-16C, ordered rebuilt by Anne de Bretagne in 1491, at the place of the old medieval church of the 11C ordered built by Count Amaury Ier de Montfort. If you are into these sort of things ,there is a cemetary from the 15-16C surrounded by galleries looking like a cloister serving as charniers for the inhumanisation of corps taken from the old cemetary by the church, It has a nice looking cloister entrance.
