If you have been reading my blog and thank you for it doing it since Nov 2010; then you know my sentimental attachment to Honfleur. A city gear to the ocean and fishing and Normandie, I have several posts on it in my blog and they are all special to me. I had to go there at least once a year for a personal duty, Let me tell you again on curiosities of Honfleur ,part VII !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Vieux Bassin or old basin is a port located in the center of the town of Honfleur. Its narrow slate houses are reflected in the basin, making it the main tourist attraction of the town. It is entirely surrounded by quays accessible to the public. These are the Quai Sainte-Catherine to the west and for part of the south side. The south side extends Quai Sainte-Catherine via Rue Montpensier. Via an underground route, the Claire stream feeds the basin. The eastern part of the basin is only occupied by a dozen constructions constituting the Quai Saint-Étienne. Three alleys lead to Quai Saint-Étienne. On the north or sea side is Quai de la Quarantaine. The movable bridge over the channel towards the outer harbor formed by the Morelle completes the circumference of the basin.

On the north side or sea side you have the quai de la Quarantaine There is a movable bridge on the channel towards the front of harbor that makes the tour of the basin. This section was renovated by May 2024 They removed the stones not jointed and replaced with natural stone, brick or an imitation granite concrete facing. After consultation, professionals offering sea rides and fishermen found substitution moorings. The promenade boats will resume their activity ,and they will be given access. And when the fishing season is advanced, the boats were moved on small sections of the port. Now all looking great and just dying to be back again this year,

The Phare Jetée Est or lighthouse of the East jerry is located at the point of the quai de la Jetée de l’Est, It was put in service since 1843 ,the tower is 9,4 meters high with a fix red light ,it guides the entrance to the harbor, In 1876 was equipped with white light with flashing red and green nowadays only red light but 12 meters high with a reach of 6 nautical miles, and is inactive since 2016, however you can go up to it for a visit, You can walk to it from the vieux basin or old port along the Quai Saint Etienne passing the marine museum to Quai de la Quarantaine turn right and go left on the Voie Charles Berthelot passing the bridge or pont de la Morelle, passing place de la gare and turn left on quai de la Jétée de l’Est to the end, Easy flat walk beautiful scenary,
