This is Gonneville sur Honfleur !!!

This was on my road warrior trails of the area, passed by it several times until finally stop for the church, I like to tell you about the village of Gonneville sur Honfleur in the department of Calvados no 14 of the region of Normandie in my belle France. Therefore, let me tell you about this is Gonneville sur Honfleur !!!  Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The village of Gonneville-sur-Honfleur has a population of 855 inhabitants in 2022. It is 4.5 km from Honfleur, 11 km from Beuzeville, 13 km from Pont-l’Évêque, 16 km from Deauville, and 377 km from my current home. Just to tell you make sure the Honfleur is shown on the name as there are seven towns named Gonneville in Normandy.,,I came to it always from City center Honfleur taking the D580 dir La Rivière-Saint-Sauveur ,and by the Premiére Classe hôtel take right into the D579 dir Pont l’Evêque (see post) to the village This road can take you to the A13 Autoroute de Normandie as well.

The Church Saint-Martin dates back in part to the 13C. Its shape is that of a Latin cross. Built on a larger scale than is typical for country churches, it presents a blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles. The nave ,the oldest part of the church, dates back to the Romanesque period, but was remodeled in the 13C. It has five bays, the chancel has two bays. A small annex building, serving as a porch, flanks the western elevation of this church. At the intersection of the main nave and the transept is the bell tower. The massive bell tower has a truncated roof, with a square base, it is topped by a spire pierced with louvers.

The Church Saint Martin’s choir and transept date from the 13C. The sacristy was added in 1778. The church facade features an old Romanesque doorway, The western door leaves feature flamboyant compartments in the upper section and pleated panels in the lower section. The roof was redone in the 18C, and the bays in the nave date from the same period. The stained-glass windows date from the 19C. In 1957, two frescoes painted on the walls were discovered. These mural depictions are believed to date from between 1450 and 1480 and tell the story of three young gentlemen called to a cemetery by three dead men who remind them of the brevity of life and the importance of saving their souls.

Other things to see with more time are the Manoir du Désert, as the story goes it was towards the end of the 15C, before 1492, that Charles and Jean Le Danois, enriched by maritime trade, acquired a portion of forest and cleared clearings, and built farm buildings and the manor, whose name they added to their surname “Sieur du Désert” Gonneville sur Honfleur is the birthplace of the navigator Paulmier de Gonneville, who, after leaving Honfleur in 1503, and rounding the Cape of Good Hope, was thrown by the storm into a region that is difficult to indicate precisely, and which is perhaps only the island of Madagascar; but others think that this region was Australia ! The Domaine de la Pommeraie in the village center or Bourg come to discover the process of transforming cider brandy into Calvados and its aging in cellars. The visit continues with a tasting-discovery of the products in a bucolic setting. From City center Honfleur take the D579A towards Equemauville (see post) passing through the town or City center to the Domaine de la Pommeraie,

A brief history I like tell us that the oldest mention of Gonneville is found in three charters dating from the 12C. In the Middle Ages, Gonneville depended on three abbeys: the Abbey of Saint Evroult (Orne 61), the Abbey of Saint Amand de Rouen (Seine Maritime 76), and the Abbey of Grestain (Eure 27).
