This is Champagnole !!!

Well well, this one needs to be in my blog for you but mainly for me, I have no pictures to show, too personnel me think but worth to have the story, Therefore, this post will be in my black and white series, no pictures, The main sight here is the hospital which hope you do not need to use it, my son did and it was a wonderful experience of good care and friendly folks, I like to tell you a bit of the story on this is Champagnole !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The City of Champagnole is located in the Jura department no 39, the cultural and historical region of Franche-Comté and the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté,and my belle France, It is nicknamed “the Pearl of the Jura.” The town is located at the crossroads of the N5 from Dijon and Dole towards Geneva and the RD471 leading from Lons-le-Saunier to Pontarlier. The ring road relieves the town of the transit of the N5. The D471 is, at Pont-du-Navoy, redirected onto the RD5 coming from Voiteur and Château-Chalon to avoid the center of Champagnole and reach the ring road. It is 297 km from Lanslebourg-Mont-Cenis, 176 km from Aboncance ,432 km from Versailles, and 824 km from my current home, The town ,also, has a train station but never use it, it is on the “Ligne des Hirondelles” connecting Dole (TGV connection with Paris) to Morez and Saint-Claude.

One of my son was on a class trip to the area for skiing in the Val-Cenis-Lanslebourg  area ,and stayed at the Domaine de Val Cenis Vanoise Winter Sports Resort , However, his experience was short as he developed pneumonia on the high mountains and was airlifted in emergency to the hospital at Champagnole for treatment, I recall as normal we were very worry but they assured us no need to come he was in good hands, Indeed he was, He stayed in the hospital until fever gone for about four days and was sent back by air to Nantes and medical taxi to our house all free as health is tops in my belle France, I have a post on the good times at the resort and also on my other son in Abondance which went very well, It was an experience and gladly did not like the skiing.

Some of the things to see here are the Archaeological Museum , Rue Baronne Delort. It presents Gallo-Roman and Merovingian finds, the Church of Saint-Cyr-et-Sainte-Julitte de Champagnole (18C), Rue Baronne Delort. It contains an altar, an altarpiece and an organ from the 18C, the City/Town Hall (19C), Rue Baronne Delort.

A bit of history tell us that in 1130, the Archbishop of Besançon donates part of the church of Champagnole to the Abbey of Balerne, which already owns the other part. Humbert IV of Salins inherits the lands between Angillon, Londaine, and Ain upon the death of his father, Humbert III of Salins, whose younger son he was, brother of Gaucher III. He then builds the castle in the southern sector of Mont Rivel to better manage his possessions. In 1479 destruction of the town by the troops of Louis XI of France. 1480: Mont Rivel Castle appears to have been burned down by Louis XI’s troops. In the Great War or WWI between 1914–1918 with the general mobilization, all men fit for war were recruited for the war. During the war, Canadian troops established their camp in Champagnole to exploit the timber from the Joux Forest to meet the enormous needs of the war machine. From June 1940 to September 1944, almost four years, Champagnole was occupied by the nazis army, and was liberated on September 3, 1944.
