However, while looking at previous posts, realised not written or hardly told you about a wonderful building and a nice museum by the Loire river. Therefore, this is old picture new text to tell you about the new Musée d’Art et d’Histoire of Amboise, part II !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Musée d’Art et d’Histoire d’Amboise or the Amboise Museum of Art and History, formerly the City/town hall museum, is housed in a private mansion built in the early 16C by Pierre Morin. Long known as the “City/Town Hall Museum,” the museum became the “Musée-Hôtel Morin” in 2014, in tribute to its builder. The museum features six visitor rooms, two vestibules, two corridors, and a stairwell: The Wedding Room – where all civil weddings in the town of Amboise still take place; The Kings Room; The Leonardo da Vinci Room; The Yvonne Gouverné Room; The Gouache Room; The City Council Room; and some rooms are still used for municipal purposes (including the Wedding Room, the Yvonne Gouverné Room, and the Council Room.

Pierre Morin, was a wealthy merchant and treasurer to Louis XII. In the 18C, it was purchased by the Duke of Choiseul, who made it the seat of his lordship justice. From 1848 to 1852, the building served as barracks for the garrison of Emir Abdelkader, held prisoner at the Château d’Amboise. The City/Town Hall moved there in 1855. It received its first deposit of works of art from the State in 1876, and undergoing a restoration that gave it its current appearance in 1891. The Town Hall’s administrative services were moved to an adjoining building in 1970, allowing the museum to expand into the spaces of the Hôtel Morin. It was designated a Museum of France in 2002.
