I like to have memories and nowdays even more. I remember Fontainebleau castle as it was in the Seine et Marne dept 77 that my dear late wife Martine, took me first to show me her department/region back in 1990. We have come here ever since, and it is one of my favorite castles been friend of the association that helps protect its heritage. Their office is on your left once entering the main entrance to the castle fyi. I have written many posts on it before, so peruse my blog and see beauty before your eyes. These are new pictures to my blog thanks to my vast cd rom vault, Of course, this is also in the Île de France region of my belle France, Therefore, here is my take on the bedrooms of the Château de Fontainebleau , part II !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.  The Chambre de l’impératrice or the Empress’s bedroom. The furniture in this small room consists in particular of a singularly crowned bed, enlarged in 1843 for one of the daughters of Louis-Philippe and their husbands, in white silk and blue lapis broché d ‘or. This room has housed the queen’s bedroom since the 16C, and it was there that the Grand Dauphin, son of Louis XIV and Marie-Thérèse, was born on November 1, 1661. This room is thus nicknamed the bedroom of the six Marys”, in reference to the different sovereigns who used it such as Marie de Medici, Marie-Thérèse of Spain, Marie Leszczyńska, Marie-Antoinette, Marie-Louise de Habsbourg, and Marie-Amélie. The room was refurbished for Joséphine between 1805 and 1807, before being inhabited for the last time by the Empress Eugenie. The Napoleon’s bedrooms kept the essentials of Louis XVI décor such as woodwork, fireplace, top-of-door decorations, etc. In fact, it served in the 18C, from a powder cabinet (toilet). The décor was enriched for the Emperor of his victories, bees, Imperial figure, and paintings in golden grilles, made in 1811. Furnished in 1808-1809 in the Empire style, including two armchairs called “paumier” (with unequal armrests) the room has a carpet adorned with military trophies woven in Aubusson in 1809. The Emperor’s bedroom was the billiard room of the Princess of Lamballe in 1786, before becoming the room of Madame Elisabeth in 1791, then the room of Cardinal Fesch in 1804. The alcove was abolished in 1810, while the brocatelle fireplace was installed. Woodwork dates back to the late 18C. The petit chambre de l’Empereuror small bedroom of the Emperor. Former study of Louis XVI of which the fireplace, overdoors and woodwork remain, then Emperor Napoleon’s private library, and finally the small bedroom of the Emperor’s apartments where he had installed in 1811 a gilded iron camp daybed. The upholstery of the furniture and decor consists of a set of green silk, red brocade, “Roman-style” draperies in ponceau brocade (poppy red) and gold rewoven and restated from 1984 to 1995. In the center of the room ,a large flat mahogany desk featuring bronze chiselled ornaments and gilding by Jacob designed for Napoleon I was installed. It alternated between work and sleep during the long nights.Next to the bed on the right is a back door leading to the mahogany staircase Napoleon used to directly enter the library in his ‘Petits Appartements’ The ceiling painting, created in 1818 by Jean-Baptiste Regnault, was commissioned by Louis XVIII and depicts an allegory of the Bourbons returning to France: Royal Clemency stopping the course of Justice. The Emperor’s antichamber constituted the first and second antichamber of Madame de Pompadour, before becoming the first antichamber of Madame Elisabeth (sister of Louis XVI).
