I come from my road warrior trail from Le Lude , and needed to stop by Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil ,in the department 37 Indre et Loire of the beautiful Centre Val de Loire region of my belle France. This one is a familiar one as been here several times for the wines , This time arrived at lunch time but the daughter now owner took care of us very nicely. I had planned to stop here on our way home, this is the Vignobles de la Rodaie ! These again proves the choices are endless and each time we enjoy a bit more of my belle France. Therefore, let me tell you a bit more on the Vignobles de la Rodaie of Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil , part III !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Cousseau-Boireau property, a family business for 4 generations, the Vignoble de la Rodaie, located 500 meters from the heart of the village of Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil, offers you a guided tasting of its vintages. These fruity and generous red wines are aged and preserved in chestnut barrels for the traditional cuvée and old oak barrels for the “vieilles vignes” cuvée. We have met them and visited for several years either at their property or in wine fairs near us, We love their Tradition vintage, always pleasant light and great price/quality ratio. Continue with the cuvée Kermélise , 6 mos ageing old vines and the cuvée Margaux 2 years ageing of old vines our first try. There is also new history wine from their son who is training to take over the property, All for a great time of interaction with the owners family and wines, just my best picture of my wonderful Loire Valley of my belle France.

On our latest visit, the daughter and her husband are taking over the domaine from her parents who still help ,,, They sold a farm with 60 cows to concentrate on the wines, They are working on making white white and sparkler as well to expand their rosé and red line, The cave has been converted into a tasting room and the production cuves is on the previous cave, Very nice family very friendly and good price/quality ratio wines,

The best known wines are obviously the Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil (AOC) and the Bourgueil (AOC) which exist in red and rosé. However, other wines can be produced there like: Touraine, Crémant de Loire, IGP Val de Loire and Loire Rosé The agricultural and wine union of Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil was created in 1891 , and on July 31, 1937, Saint Nicolas obtained his AOC (appellation d’origine controllée) for its unique red wine from Cabernet Franc. In 1977 was created the brotherhood “The commandery of the Dive Bouteille de Bourgueil and Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil” Located in the heart of the Touraine vineyard, the town of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil is a major center of Loire viticulture. The most famous wines are obviously Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil (AOC) and Bourgueil (AOC) which exist in red and rosé and with Cabernet Franc, However, other wines can be produced there such as: Touraine, Crémant de Loire, IGP Val de Loire and Rosé de Loire. The Cabernet Franc is undoubtedly the grape variety of the Loire Valley. The development of the vine probably dates back to the Gallo-Roman era, but it was around the Abbey of Bourgueil, founded in 990, that the monks planted Cabernet Franc in Touraine, locally called “Breton”. Some explain the nickname by a first vine planted by Abbot Breton, manager of Richelieu’s lands, in Bourgueil in the 17C… Rabelais, however, already recounted its merits in the 16C by citing “this good Breton” in his work Gargantua… Others have this grape variety arriving by sea, in Nantes, then considered a Breton port part of Brittany.
