I came to Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil for a friend’s wine, and turn out to be a wonderful stop thereafter. This town proves again, the choices are endless and each time we enjoy a bit more of our trips to the Loire Valley. The town of Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil is located in the dept. no 37 of Indre et Loire in the Centre-Val de Loire region of my belle France. This small town is located on the road to the large castles of the valley of the kings. The town is located in Touraine Angevine, formerly Anjou. Do see my other posts on the wine, and town, Therefore, let me tell you on the curiosities of Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
Severely damaged by a tornado , the bell tower of the church in the town of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil collapsed. It fell into the nave. The Church of Saint-Nicolas is currently being rebuilt. The church will reopen in the fall 2025. The Church of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil was built in 1834. This building is truly the heart of life in this small village. It is around this monument that the current town was built and its typical weekly market is held. Inside, among the stained-glass windows, you can see the stained-glass window depicting the Charity of Saint Martin, created in 1881 as well as a carved wooden pulpit.

The old Saint-Nicolas church, mentioned in 1208, was located near the current Bourgueil cemetery; It was destroyed in 1835. Saint Nicholas was dependent on the Bourgueil Abbey, founded in 987. Before the French revolution, the parish belonged to the province of Anjou; when the departments were created in 1789, it was attached to the department of Indre-et-Loire.

The Vignoble de la Jarnoterie is located in the heart of the Saint-Nicolas de Bourgueil appellation, with its remarkable trilogy of climate, soil, and grape variety.Cabernet Franc. The estate, a 26-hectare family estate, was established in 1893. and still for five generations, We were passing along the D352 road by after purchasing our wines in town, and on our way home.

Other wine, we have tried from this area of Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil and very good too is Domaine de la Cotellaraie, The Domaine is a wine-growing estate that has belonged to the Vallée family for several generations. While in 1957 when the father started, the estate had 12 hectares of vines as well as asparagus and fruit tree crops, it is now represented by 27 hectares of vines. Since the son takeover in 1997, representing the first generation to devote itself solely to wine.Grape variety: Cabernet Franc, Another good wine from the area.
