This one is from the old paper photos ,from our visits to France ! This was done in August 1995 vintage lol ! We came with the older brother of my wife and our families to share a gîte in Buxy (see post) , and explore the lands around and beyond, We needed groceries and found toys store and my little boys got a full one, Memories forever still enjoying my mom Gladys and Dad Elio, I like to use this old personal picture to bring this memorable trip into my blog and tell you about a new city touch base of Châlon sur Saône, Therefore, here is my take on this is Chalon sur Saône !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The Chalon-sur-Saône is located in the Saône-et-Loire department no, 71 in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of my belle France. It is 59 km from Mâcon, 72 km from Dijon, 127 km from Lyon, 347 km from Paris, 347 from Versailles and 746 km from my current homey. The main roads are the autoroute A6 and the N80, However, I came here from our rental house in Buxy 19 km away on the D977 road route de Buxy to the D906 and the shopping center

Centre Commercial La Thalie is located on Rue François Protheau off D906, We shopped for better groceries with my family the picture is of my parents at the old Géant Casino – La Thalie and now run by the Les Mousquetaires group with Intermarché, The reason we came here and sadly never been to the city center and the sights, However, need to have it in my blog for the memories of always and my dear parents RIP, We will be back ,eventually, The official Hyper Intermarché at the Centre Commercial La Thalie: https://www.intermarche.com/magasins/10685/chalon-sur-saone-71100/infos-pratiques

With time some of the things to see here are the Municipal theater; Italian-style façade completed in 1783. The house of Côte Chalonnaise wines. A town of art and history, Chalon-sur-Saône has a large historic district with old half-timbered houses, numerous alleys, towers and turrets, See the Saint-Vincent Cathedral, Place Saint-Vincent. Built between 1090 and 1520, it has a neo-Gothic façade dating from 1827, a cloister from the 14-15C, The Saint-Pierre Church, Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville. The imposing Baroque church has seven bells, The Chapelle de la citadelle, rue Doneau. This chapel is one of the rare remains of the old Saint-Pierre abbey, ransacked during the wars of religion. The monks then came to settle on the side of the current Saint-Pierre Church. The Saint-Pierre Abbey . Church of Sacre Coeur, 115 rue de la Verrerie. Inaugurated in 1911, it was renovated in 2015, The Nicéphore-Niépce museum located in the former Hôtel des Messageries royales. Since 2000, the museum has presented contemporary photographs; the Denon museum ,a leading figure in the world of art at the end of the Ancien Régime (monarchy). It is located on Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville, the Musée du Souvenir du combattant, dedicated to memories of wars in order to preserve memory. It is located in the chapel of the Templars.

A bit of history tell us that Chalon was the unofficial capital of the first Kingdom of Burgundy because it was better located than the official capital, Orléans. For this reason, Chalon was, from the 5C to the 13C, the scene of twelve councils, from 470 to 1073. The city was again besieged in 1478 by the troops of Louis XI, then returned, thanks to this last prince, to the crown of France, after having belonged, from 938 to 1237, to the Counts of Chalon and, from 1237 to 1477, to the Dukes of Burgundy. The border of Chalonnais was henceforth, for two centuries, that of the Kingdom of France and the Habsburg States. This is why this city still played a fairly large role as a stronghold during the Wars of Religion of the 16C. Chalon will be the last bastion of resistance to Henry IV (King of France). In 1814, Chalon resisted the Austrian invasion. This feat of arms earned the city the Legion of Honor from the Emperor during his stay from March 14 to 15, 1815. During WWII, Chalon-sur-Saône, located on the demarcation line, was split in two and the northern part occupied from June 17, 1940. The Saône river then played the role of border between the free zone and the occupied zone. Chalon was liberated on September 5, 1944 by the troops of the 3rd Algerian Infantry Division who had landed in Provence.
