The town of Mimizan is located in the Landes department No, 40 in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of my belle France. The town is shared between two poles with separate activities: Mimizan-Bourg (town) and Mimizan-Plage,(beach), during the summer period a free shuttle network dessert Mimizan connecting the town and the beach. The town was once nicknamed the “pearl of the silver coast” , It is 112 km from Bordeaux ,78 km from Mont-de-Marsan, 101 km from Bayonne, 692 km from Versailles, and 602 km from my current home, Going all the way on the N165, A10 and A63, exit/sortie 16.

On road warrior trails passing what struck me and time for a picture was the former old Sainte-Marie priory church ; only part of the western wall of the nave and a square and massive bell tower in brick and alios, covered in chestnut shingles and surmounted by an octagonal arrow. The porch houses a portal built around 1220. This portal is one of the most beautiful sets of medieval sculptures in the Landes. Above the gate, under a broken arc, unfolds a painted decor on 26 m2 dating from the second half of the 15C, representing scenes from the passion of Christ.

Other things to see here me think are the 10 km of beaches. The best in my opinion are plage Remember, plage de la Garluche, plage Sud, plage Lespecier (6 km away), and the plage du Courant. Also, a casino opened on Mimizan-Plage in the last years of the 19C, then replace by the Stelsia Casino Mimizan, inaugurated on February 2, 2019 ,and belonging to the group of Philippe-Ginestet. The Maison du Patrimoine is an associative museum presents life in Mimizan and in the country of Born of yesteryear, by approaching several themes, The Notre-Dame-de-de L’Assomption Church from 1887-1891, The Notre-Dame des Dunes Church from 1968-1969, the Chapelle à la Mer an ancient religious wooden chapel today desecrated it is by Mimizan-Plage done from1896-1946, The source Notre-Dame or fountain, reputed to treat the “snake”, popular designation of children’s diarrhea, and eye diseases; adorned with statues of the Virgin to whom it is dedicated and a crucifix, this fountain was built in 1967 at the foot of the Tuc d’Udos, in a place that commemorates where a woman was cured of a skin disease around 1907, The Château de Woolsack , a hunting pavilion built in 1911 by Hugues Richard Arthur Grosvenor, second Duke of Westminster, the English district and its outbuildings. The Promenade des Fleurs or flower promenade is a floral site created by the town in 1970-72, located on the edge of Lake Aureilhan (Mimizan Bourg side) open to the public all year round. This walk on 800 meters allows the discovery of more than 400 species of plants. It was qualified in 2001 as one of the most beautiful flowery sites in France and allowed Mimizan in 1994 to obtain its 4th flower in the competition of flower towns and villages. In 2020, the town obtained the “golden flower” trophy from Villes et Villages Fleuris or cities and villages of floweries.

A bit of history tell us that before the 7C, the sector which was one of the most active sea ports on the Atlantic coast. Around 1010, monks detached from the Saint-Sever Abbey settled in Mimizan and founded a priory, which becomes the center of a safety, a sacred asylum place created by the church for the protection of the weak. Mimizan enters the heritage of the Maison d’Albret via Mathe d’Albret. At the start of the Hundred Years War, at the end of 1337 or at the beginning of 1338, Mathe d’Albret concluded an agreement with the King of England Édouard III, Duke of Aquitaine, From the Middle Ages, the city becomes a stage on the coastal track of the way or camino de Santiago,

Seaside tourism appeared on the Aquitaine coast at the end of the 18C, between 1871 and 1873. “Mimizan-les-Bains” as they say then experienced a boom from the 1880s, reinforced by the arrival of the train. On the beach side, hotels, shops and secondary residences started to get out of the ground north of the current, The chapel at the sea was erected from 1896, and Mr. Ducasse, known as “Tchoc”, is the first swimming supervisor, in 1899, On July 10, 1913, Mimizan became the first climate station in the Landes, Mimizan-Plage serves as a base of rest in the American army after the United States enters the Great War or WWI. The soldiers find the conditions for their recovery there after months at the front. They establish their staff at the level of 20, rue du Vieux-Marche and respect the salute ritual of the flag every morning and every evening , Some American soldiers were established in Mimizan and found a family there.

On June 16, 1929, aviators Jean Assollant, René Lefèvre and Armand Lotti, who left Old Orchard Beach in the United States aboard the “Canary Bird”, made a forced landing on the plage du Nord beach. They thus become the first Frenchmen to link America to Europe by plane. The wings monument testifies to this event. It was inaugurated on June 21, 1931. During the four years of its occupation, from June 28, 1940 to August 24, 1944, Mimizan welcomed a military camp in the Kriegsmarine which serves as an instruction and rest center in the nazis army. The town was, also, incorporates the fortification device of the coastal Atlantic Wall.

Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
