This is Cerizay !!!

Once again, coming back from my road warrior trails in my belle FranceThis one is a special one ,first time here and by lodging in town to break down our road warrior trails with a rest stop Par chance of the draw I picked to stay in Cerizay located in the Deux-Sèvres department no. 79 in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of my belle France. Therefore, here is my take on this is Cerizay !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The village of Cerizay is located 15 km from Bressuire from where we were coming from, and 14 km Pouzauges, 45 km from Thouars, 93 km from Nantes, 37 km from Cholet, and 235 km from my current town, However, we came here from Bressuire on the D38 road to connect left on the D960BIS road dir Ciriéres continue to Avenue du Général Marigny in Cerizay.

From 8h30 to 13h, find around ten exhibitors at Place des Halles for the monthly market! This is a covered market in lead in front of the hôtel de ville at Place Jean-Monnet.

I rented a house as usual and lucky was in City center near the church and all commerces, The house smallist typical for rental purposes, the bedrooms were big the rest ok ; only grimace with the heat going on only had one fan for the whole house ! We went out a lot lol ! The house was the Maison Bonheur booked as always thru booking with discounts !

Other things to see here are the Notre-Dame de Beauchêne Abbey, in which the President of the French Republic can claim a stall as “first and only honorary canon” of the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran (Rome). The Château de Puy Genest with two construction campaigns , the first dating back to 1870 The Château de la Roche, built at the end of the 19C.

A bit of history tell us that the origin of the name is believed to be Gallo-Roman. In the Middle Ages, the town center was located at the foot of the feudal castle. The last two towers of this castle, as well as its old 12C Romanesque chapel, were demolished during the construction of the current church in 1890.(see post), Cerizay belonged to the Maingot of Surgères. On August 25, 1944, a nazis column returning from the coast bombed in retaliation and set fire to the town, house by house, killing five people and destroying 172 houses. On the eve of the revolution, Cerizay was a large rural village with around 1,800 inhabitants, including many artisans and a few shopkeepers. In the villages, farmers, sharecroppers, and smallholders lived off livestock and mixed farming. After the damage of the Wars of Religion, which had not spared the region in the 16th century, Cerizay would experience the destruction of the Vendée Wars. In 1939 and 1940, the town welcomed Polish and Ardennes refugees, and then experienced the dark hours of the nazis occupation. A resistant town, Cerizay suffered machine-gun fire and artillery bombardment from a German column withdrawing from the coast on August 25, 1944. The event was a painful experience for the Cerizay residents, a quarter of whom were affected. The automotive coachbuilder firm Heuliez had its main production plant on the outskirts of the town.
