The Château de Bressuire !!!

Once again, coming back from my road warrior trails in my belle France. This one after many passing finally went in City center of Bressuire, with great architecture and history to boot. You will see plenty in next posts stay tune, The City of Bressuire is located in the Deux-Sèvres department no. 79 in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of my belle France. The town of Bressuire is located  244 km from my current home, However, on my visit this time came from Thouars on the D938 ter entering on Bd de Thouars to rondpoint left on Rue de la Cave to Place Dupin and parking !

The Château de Bressuire is located at 5 Rue du Château, its a fortified castle with moats and walls, recently renovated. The dwelling in its center is neo-Gothic. Built on a rocky promontory in the 11C, the castle, owned by the Beaumont family, continually strengthened its defensive system and is said to have included up to three successive walls. Today, follow the 700-meter-long wall, punctuated by 38 towers, some of which are designed as isolated strongholds, and stroll past the romantic ruins of the 15C residence. From the esplanade, enjoy the view of the Chapel of St. Cyprien and the former 19C slaughterhouses.The neo-Gothic residence, renovated in the 19C, houses temporary exhibitions, a sculpture exhibition in March, and a painting exhibition in May. A sculpture symposium is held every year within the castle grounds. Treasure hunt in July and August: Help Dame Jeanne rebuild her castle by finding the treasure hidden by her husband! A Terra Aventura geocaching trail is also available.

The site has been continuously inhabited since the Celtic era. The first mention of a castrum dates back to 1029. The current castle was likely founded at the turn of the 10C and 11C by the Beaumont family, and it belonged to the Beaumont-Bressuire family from the 11C to the early 16C. It played a key military role in the struggles waged in Poitou between the kings of France and England for three centuries. The Château de Bressuire was never besieged. Du Guesclin ousted the English. The castle was acquired by the town in 1975. Surrounding it there is a nice park where local families come for strolls and picnics.

The fortress comprised three enclosures, but the outermost one has disappeared. A chapel once stood within the enclosure. To this day, only the foundations of the crypt are believed to remain, at a depth of approximately 2 meters. In the 12C, the dungeon, which has since disappeared, overlooked the ponds, and a horseshoe-shaped wall with solid turrets protected it from the plateau side. In the 13C, a second 165-meter wall, housing a chapel and bailey, extended deep into the plateau. The currently visible remains date mainly from the late 12C and early 13C. In the first half of the 18C, following violent storms and poor maintenance, it was partially dismantled, and a new building was built around 1880, set back from the old one. All that remains of this fortress are the ruins of the walls, part of the keep, and a glimpse of the patrol paths. Renovation is currently underway, little by little, on a northern tower of the wall.

Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
