I have come to this wonderful region of my belle France for its architecture, history, culinary delights and the wines, oh yes the wines ! , especially the wines ! As said, it is a tradition in my house and makes it a good reason to come here, I like to dwell again into one of my favorite wine region, And yes this is Beaujolais of my belle France, Therefore, here is my take on I give you Morgon, Brouilly, Chiroubles, Juliénas, Moulin à Vent of Beaujolais !!! Hope you enjoy it as I,
The most sensual of vineyards, it extends over 17,324 hectares and runs along a ribbon 10 to 15 km wide and 50 km long, from Mâcon in the north to Lyon in the south, on the hilly slopes of the Beaujolais mountains which reach an altitude of 700 to more than 1,000 meters. The Gamay Noir grape variety reigns supreme in this land blessed by the gods, and in the most brilliant way since it offers an extraordinary palette of wines, from the finest and most aromatic, the Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages, to the richest and most complex, the ten Beaujolais crus, each possessing a specific character linked to the different terroirs: Brouilly, Chiroubles, Chénas, Côte de Brouilly, Fleurie, Juliénas, Morgon, Moulin-à-Vent, Régnié, and Saint-Amour. More confidentially, some winemakers in Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages produce sumptuous Beaujolais Blanc (made from the Chardonnay grape variety) and Beaujolais Rosé (made from the Gamay Noir grape variety), as well as surprising Crémants (sparklers). The Gamay Noir grape variety delivers the most intense expression of its potential in the Beaujolais vineyard terroirs, giving rise to wines of great purity. It is to this rare grape variety that the red and rosé wines of Beaujolais owe their worldwide reputation. The Chardonnay grape variety produces beautiful golden bunches, rich in a deliciously sweet white juice. In the terroirs of the AOP Beaujolais and the AOP Beaujolais Villages, its golden grapes produce great white wines with captivating aromas of citrus, white flowers or honey.
I like to tell my latest tastings from Beaujolais : Morgon Domaine des Montillets vieille vignes ,Brouilly Les Tours de Pierreux, Juliénas Vignerons des Crus du Beaujolais Terres Romaines , Chiroubles Domaine Passot Collonge Bel Air, and Moulin à Vent Vignerons des Crus du Beaujolais Les Menniers.

Morgon ,Coming from a particular terroir made up of decomposed rocks and crumbly schists, it seduces with its fullness on the palate. From its country, it brings back aromas of red fruits crushed by the anger of a storm. Deep garnet color, aromas of ripe stone fruits: cherry, peach, apricot, plum… it is a rich, fleshy and powerful wine which improves with age. The appellation covers the village of Villié-Morgon, in the Beaujolais vineyard. Although the village of Villié-Morgon was born from the merger of the two hamlets of Villié and Morgon, the appellation has kept the one of the two names which corresponded to the most prestigious wines. The village of Villié-Morgon is 54 km north of the city of Lyon. According to Customs, the area claimed in 2023 under the appellation is 1,114 hectares. The production declared in 2023 was a total of 57,126 hectoliters.
Brouilly It is at the foot of Mont Brouilly, an eminence crowned by an exquisite chapel, that the vines of the most extensive of the Beaujolais Crus flourish. It is therefore not surprising, when poured, to see it undulate in the glass with curves as tender as the hills of its region. Deep ruby in color, it has a nose of red fruits, plum, peach, with mineral notes. The most southern of the crus is colorful, firm and full-bodied. The appellation area extends over six villages around Mont Brouilly, in the Beaujolais vineyard. The first vines planted on the slopes of Mont Brouilly date back to the 4C. The name appeared in 1179, when the donated the vines located at the clos de Brouilly to the newly founded Belleville Abbey. The area of the Brouilly appellation is located west of Belleville, in the Rhône department, around Mont Brouilly, in the territory of the villages of Cercié, Charentay, Odenas, Quincié-en-Beaujolais, Saint-Étienne-la-Varenne and Saint-Lager. According to Customs, the area claimed in 2023 under the appellation is 1,196 hectares. The declared production in 2023 was a total of 61,704 hectoliters.
Chiroubles, Nestled at 400 meters in its granite cirque, it is the highest perched of the Beaujolais Crus. A divine communion with the sky that gives Chiroubles the desire to star the glass with fine iridescent pearls, like a dawn of dew on its vines. At once sweet, tender on the palate and elegant, it displays a bright red color and a sumptuous nose where aromas of peony, lily of the valley, iris and violet mingle. Fine and very fruity, it is one of the most typical Beaujolais wines. The appellation covers the village of Chiroubles, in the Beaujolais vineyards. The village of Chiroubles is located in the Rhône department, in the northern part of the Beaujolais vineyards, 11 km from Beaujeu, 13 km from Belleville, 14 km from the A6 and 60 km from Lyon. According to Customs, the area claimed in 2023 under the appellation is 278 hectares. The declared production in 2023 was a total of 12,545 hectoliters.
Juliénas, Fragrant like spring, it quickly reveals a pleasant bouquet of peach, red fruits and floral aromas. Generous like the wind that stirs its hills, it delights the eyes with its deep and intense ruby color. Coming from a soil of schist and granite, this lively wine can be appreciated both young and after a few years in the bottle where it stands the mark of time very well. Juliénas is the reference wine of many journalists who have more than once sung its praises. The appellation covers the surroundings of Juliénas, in the Beaujolais vineyard. A large part of the appellation is located in the Rhône 69, and a very small part in Saône-et-Loire 71. The villages concerned by the AOC Juliénas are Juliénas, Émeringes and Jullié in the Rhône and Pruzilly in Saône-et-Loire. According to Customs, the area claimed in 2023 under the appellation is 537 hectares. The production declared in 2023 was a total of 25,556 hectoliters.
Moulin à Vent, Its name comes from an ancient mill, sometimes quiet, sometimes driven by the wind, planted for ages on a hill in Romanèche-Thorins. It owes its noble character to a granite subsoil rich in manganese. Its dark ruby color promises aromas of iris, faded rose, spices and ripe fruits. A full-bodied wine for laying down, it is worthy of being among the greatest. Isn’t Moulin à Vent said to be the “Lord of Beaujolais”, The appellation covers part of the villages of Chénas and Romanèche-Thorins, in the Beaujolais vineyard. This wine was sold before 1936 under the name “Romanèche-Thorins” which was once considered a Beaujolais cru. The name was changed to Moulin à Vent by the decree of September 11, 1936. The name comes from the old windmill located in the center of the vineyard. It is located around the hamlet of Thorins, straddling the town of Romanèche-Thorins in Saône-et-Loire 71 and Chénas in the Rhône 69. According to Customs, the area claimed in 2023 under the appellation is 626 hectares. The production declared in 2023 was a total of 29,836 hectoliters.
