Let me bring out to Normandie again. We have come here several times especially when living in Versailles , and have written plenty, However, found me again a new picture from my cd rom vault that should be in my blog. This was a nice find ,worth the detour !! As a nice introduction to the village. Therefore, let me tell you about this is Veules les Roses !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.
The village of Veules-les-Roses is located by the sea, in the dept 76 of Seine-Maritime,in the Normandie region of my belle France. It is among “the most beautiful villages in France”. The village is located 7 km from Saint-Valery-en-Caux, 26 km from Dieppe, 65 km from Rouen, 194 km from Paris, 187 km from Versailles, and 465 km from my current home.
Between Fécamp and Dieppe, installed on the Caux plateau overlooking the cliffs of the Côte d’Albâtre, Veules-les-Roses offers all the attractions of a village between sea and countryside. Before throwing itself into the Channel, the Veules, the smallest river in France, offers a green and flowery course over the mills and smoke towers, while villas and bathroom cabins recall the origins of the seaside resort.
Things to see here are the Church Saint Martin (see post), and three houses and seaside villas at 6, 13 and 25 rue du Docteur-Pierre-Girard (D 142), The Jardin Saint-Nicolas, in which we find the ruins of the church of the same name and the haloed hosanniere cross of the 15C, The monument to Victor Hugo, at Place Mélingue, The Abreuvoir or drinking trough bordered by lovely cottages, the ford of the drinking trough keeps an authenticity which makes it the current charm. Go along the Veules river to pass on the sandstone gateway.

Been a renown seaside resort for many years many notables passed or stayed here some of my favorites amongst the many were as early as 1840, the actress of the Comédie-Française, Mademoiselle Anaïs, led to her enthusiasm the actor Etienne Mélingue. The writer Paul Meurice several times receives his friend Victor Hugo there. The writer Michel Bussi wrote a news dedicated to the actress in his work Do you remember my Anaïs ?. He imagines a secret kept by the young woman and who would involve Victor Hugo, Several Russian painters of the 19C were here such as Alexei Bogolioubov who discovered Normandy in 1857, Konstantine Savitski, Alexei Harlamov and Karl Goun. Two representatives of Scottish colorists Samuel Peploe and John Duncan Fergusson also put their easels there.
The landscape painters brothers, Xavier and César de Cock ,also, the actors Paul-Louis Leroux (de la Comédie-Française) and Eugène Pierron, Alexandre Dumas-Son, José-Maria de Heredia, Henri Rochefort, Alexis Bouvier, Jules Michelet, Victor Hugo, The poets Jean Richepin and François Coppée, the playwright Jules Claretie, Henri Lavedan, Émile Bergerat and the composer Alexandre Georges. Politicians like Albert Clemenceau or Pierre Taittinger also attend the station. Victor Boucher, Georges Chamarat, Saint-Granier, the writer Maurice Privat, Dominique Bonnaud as well as the sportsmen Suzanne Lenglen and Lucien Gaudin frequent the village. Anna Hope Hudson established a hospital for soldiers during the Great War or WWI.
