The Church Saint Pierre of Arronmanches les Bains !!!

I have come back in my road warrior trails of my belle France and Normandy is tops ; see my many posts on it in my blog, I needed to be back and did in grand style me think. Nice experiences which had made us come back again to historically Arromanches les Bains, Therefore, let me tell you about the Church Saint Pierre of Arromanches les Bains !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The village of Arromanches-les-Bains, aka Arromanches, is located in the Calvados department no. 14 in the Normandie region of my belle France. It is 11 km from Bayeux, 29 km from Caen, 261 km from Versailles ,and 313 km from my current home. The town is accessed from Bayeux via the D 516 from where we came, From here we also, went back home.

The Church Saint-Pierre dates back to the 11C. In the 18C, the church underwent modifications with additions such as a bay for the choir and chapels. The church was completely remodeled in the 19C ; the first bay was added, as was the bell tower. The current church was built between 1857 and 1870 in the neo-Romanesque style to replace the 13C church, which was too small for a fishing town that had become a seaside resort. The church’s stained-glass windows commemorate the landings during WWII.

The Church Saint Pierre, patron saint of fishermen, is located in a valley by the sea. The church follows a Latin cross plan with a projecting transept. The nave and the choir have four bays respectively. The church is preceded by a bell tower-porch and ends with a flat chevet. The entrance facade consists of the bell tower-porch ,The portal is surmounted by a statue of the Virgin hiding the rose window of the tympanum. The square-section bell tower, supported by angular buttresses, consists of three levels. The first is bare, the second houses the clock face and the third is pierced by arched bays equipped with louvers. It is crowned by a polygonal spire of cut stone framed by pinnacles. The organ was built in 1987, measuring 2.70 m wide, 2.72 m high, and 1 m deep, and renovated in 2016,
