The Rodovia or highway Dr. Paulo Lauro and Dep. Vicente Botta officially there are two of the routes of SP-215, also known as Rodovia São Carlos-Porto Ferreira specifically between São Carlos, Descalvado, Porto Ferreira and Santa Rita do Passa Quatro, I came here driven always by car from the airport in Sao Paulo, The City is 230 km from Sao Paulo, 135 km from Paulinia ,141 km from Campinas, and 110 km from Limeira.

Across the street from the hotel (see post), I stayed always , you have the Church Nossa Senhora do Belem ,popularly called the Mother Church of Descalvado, The church was inaugurated on September 6, 1935 where there was a chapel that had been inaugurated on September 8, 1832 The image of the patron Saint of Our Lady of Belém ,was carved in life -size by an unknown artist, coming from Europe (Italy or Spain), probably in the year 1876. The Church’s internal paintings were done by Francisco Pavlovic, a Slovenian artist who worked in the interior of the State of São Paulo during mid – 20C. Between 1923 and 1966, Pavlovic served mainly as churches decorator, being responsible for the internal decoration of 13 Brazilian churches, 12 of them in the interior of the State of São Paulo and one in the city of Rolândia, in the State of Paraná, This is a nice Church with a double tower front and nice decoration but simple inside.

Other things to see in Descalvado are the Pantano falls ,7 km from the city center , Pitangui’s rapids , and the Castle of Almanza (see post).

The name of Descalvado comes from the name of a hill, or precisely from Morro do Descalvado. Before the construction of the Chapel of Our Lady of Belém, in 1832, the lands of Descalvado would have no name, as they were the background of Rio Claro or Araraquara. Upon being elevated to the parish, they called the parish of Nossa Senhora do Belém do Descalvado. Where the name Morro do Descalvado is due to the fact that it is devoid of vegetation. The hill even has a bit of vegetation on its top, but presents rocky parts, which legitimizes the denomination of Descalvado, scald or bare.
