The Church Saint Louis of Chambord, part II !!!

And we came back to mighty beautiful Chambord ! It has been said that the stretch of land on both sides of the Loire river passing by several famous towns for its castles was referred to as the valley of the kings. Well Chambord is the king of the valley! Chambord is a small village with a huge castle and even bigger forest in dept Loir-et- Cher,no 41 of the Centre-Val de Loire region of my belle France. As usual , I have written plenty but never enough when you consider the magnificent of Chambord. Therefore, here is my take on the Church Saint Louis of Chambord, part II !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The village of Chambord is famous for its castle and its fully enclosed park, a national hunting reserve where presidential hunts once took place. The village and the entire territory are the property of the French State, administered in the form of a public industrial and commercial establishment called the Domaine national de Chambord. The latest was 35 min 31 km from our hotel in Meung sur Loire to Chambord follow D2 and D2152 towards Av. de Chambord/D925 to Beaugency, At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Av. d’Orléans/D2152, Follow D925 towards D951 to Saint-Laurent-Nouan turn left onto Av. de Chambord/D925 (signs towards Lailly en Val/La Ferté St A./St Laurent des Eaux) Continue to follow D925 turn left onto Pont de Beaugency/D925 turn right onto D925 (signs towards La Ferté St Cyr/Chambord) at the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto D951 , Follow D112B and D112 towards Place Saint-Louis to Chambord.

In Chambord it does have a nice historical Church Saint Louis, most visitors rush to the castle and park (see posts) and there are several things to see around it especially this wonderful archeturally and historically stunning little church. The church overlook the castle on a small hill. In full view of it, You see , also, next to it in the back the City Hall at Place de la Mairie.

Although existing before the castle, the current Church Saint Louis was built in 1666 under the name of St. Louis at the request of king Louis XIV. It is then enlarged in 1684. In the 19C, it is restored and remodeled for the Duchess of Berry and the Count of Chambord, ( grandson of king Charles X, chief and last representative of the elder French branch of the Bourbon House  could have been king Henri V ,if accepted the tricolor revolutionary French flag! He did not ,see post) the work lasted from 1830 to 1855. The bell tower was completed in 1855. The church was the property of the House of Bourbon-Parma until 1932 when the French State purchase it.

Its magnificent hexagonal bell tower lantern was built around 1855 was once a belfry and the sound of its bells warned villagers of the dangers . Built in a neo-renaissance style, the bell tower houses alcoves with shells of beauty and reveals its bell in the midst of fine and slender openings richly carved. The belfry counted a single bell of 1778, which would come from the tower of the bells of the castle of Chambord. The original 1778 bell was sold by Maître Savot by the Orléans sales gallery in 1996, to a private purchaser.

The Church Saint Louis is open every afternoon except Wednesday  from 14h30 to 17h30. Due to the highly royal ambiance there is little information on the church; my only recollection is to have visited again, and a brochure.

Other things to see are the chapel of the place called Maurepas dating from the 16C, The Pont des Italiens probably dating from the 16C, crossing the Cosson in the west of the village, The Saint-Michel bridge probably dating from the 16C, crossing the Cosson in the east of the village The Saint-Michel hotel, built in the 18C, and the Caroline fountain dating from 1825

A bit of history tell us that in 1491, the estate was acquired by the French crown. In 1519, Francis I decided to build the Château de Chambord; it was completed in 1690 under the reign of Louis XIV. In 1930, the estate was acquired by the French State. The City/town hall of Chambord does not own any property, not even the City/town hall.

There you go folks, I say the king of the valley of the kings, Chambord, undescribable. A must to visit while in France. We had come back, and will again. We were there even during Christmas magical, and concerts awesome. Again, hope you enjoy this post on the Church Saint Louis of Chambord, part II !!! as I.

And remember, happy travels , good health, and many cheers to all !!!
