We have driven in the area and stop by finally, and a great surprise indeed, This is the nice City of Meung-sur-Loire located in the Loiret department no. 45 in the Centre-Val de Loire region of my belle France, There is so much to see , and did see more for you and me, So close by it many times and finally in ,a great surprise, nice town indeed! Therefore, here is my take on the Château de Meung sur Loire !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The Château de Meung-sur-Loire sits in the heart of a 7-hectare park whose lime walkways and undergrowth offer a charming bucolic décor. Former residence of the bishops of Orleans, it was delivered by Joan of Arc from the hands of the English in 1429, before becoming a prison. The main rectangular building, flanked by three towers (the last one having been destroyed), still remains. The castle is also characterized by the presence of underground passages containing dungeons, a chapel and where various medieval torture instruments are visible, one of which was used for “water torture”. Today, the passion and dynamism of the owner make this castle a lively and culturally exciting place. Demonstrations of fencing with musketeers, and of course do not miss the arrival of Joan of Arc, the icon of Orléans!  Château de Meung-sur-Loire. 16, Place du Martroi,

The Château de Meung-sur-Loire until the French revolution was the prestigious residence of the Bishops of Orléans. It is one of the rare castles built by and for bishops. It was in the 13C that Bishop Manassès de Seignelay erected a veritable palace, worthy of his rank. Expansions were carried out in the following centuries, particularly during the Hundred Years’ War, when the bishops enlarged the castle and added a new tower. In 1706, Bishop Fleuriau d’Armenonville restored the castle, which was then considered dilapidated. While the town side of the Château de Meung-sur-Loire retains its medieval architecture, on the garden side, the facade was reworked and the walls painted, to give it the appearance of a classical castle. This former residence of the bishops of Orléans, one of the largest and oldest castles in the Loiret region no 45, has many surprises in store for you!

The Château de Meung-sur-Loire has the unique feature of having two façades from different periods, earning it the nickname “the château with two faces.” On the town side, there’s an impressive medieval façade dating from the 13C, while on the garden side, there’s an 18C Italianate façade, striking in its color, that unfolds against the wooded park. A true journey through time, a visit to the castle will take you from the upper floors to the underground passages, where you will discover more than 2,000 objects and pieces of furniture presented in a modern museum setting that will pique the interest of even the youngest visitors. Step through the gates of this imposing building and experience castle life! The castle is one of the rare painted castles in France.
