This is Eauze !!!

We have driven in the area and would like to have an imprint in my blog on the wonderful towns of my belle France, There is so much to see , doing my best, and glad found me these older paper pictures which now transposing in my blog for you and me, The pictures are old ,so the quality may not be as good ,but the memories are forever, Therefore, here is my take on this is Eauze !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I. The town of Eauze is located in the Gers dept No 32 in the Occitanie region of my belle France. On the historical and cultural level, the town is in the Bas-Armagnac, or Armagnac Noir, a country between the Auzoue , the Gélise, the Twelve and the Midou valleys. The town is at the crossroads of the RD 626 (Mimizan-Saint-Justin-Vic-Fezensac-Auch-Lombez-Pamiers) and the RD 931, (Agen-Condom-Manciet extended to Aire-sur-l’Adour) , It is 674 km from Paris ,143 km from Bordeaux, 105 km from Pau , 134 km from Toulouse, 671 km from Versailles, and 631 km from my current house, We came on the A10, A65 , and N524 to catch a glimpse on our way to Pau, The Maison de Jeanne d’Albret house dates from the end of the 15C with wooden pillars and carved beams, located at Place d’Armagnac;now a very nice Café de France on ground floor, We were on our road warrior mode by here and did not stop much, We drove into City center by rue Saint July into the Place d’Armagnac. Eauze cafe de france pl d'armagnac maison jeanne albret c2009 Eauze rue Saint July c2009 Other things to see here or by near with more time, me think are : The ruins of the ancient city of Elusa are east of the current city. A medieval city, located inside the old ramparts today transformed into boulevards and of which some vestiges remain, and the modern city, which grows outside, Also, the Saint-Luperc Cathedral is devoted to Saint Luperc, an evangelist who converts Anatole and Dassin. Built from 1467 to 1521, The cloister of the old priory, rebuilt in the 18C, but of which there was a Gothic door arcade dating from the 14C,at Place Saint-Turin. Having become a small seminar in 1841, it was transformed into a private college in 1906. The Château de Doat, built in the 15C, private residence of the Sabbathier de Lafontan family. The Imperial château d’eau or water reservoir , built on the orders of Napoleon III. The Saint-Jacques Chapel of the old hospital, The Archaeological Museum of Eauze, where an important Roman treasure found on October 18, 1985 is exhibited near the old station, in the so-called “La Cieutat” district (La Cité) . It includes 28,003 silver coins, some in gold and bronze, jewelry and precious objects. A bit of history I like tell us that on the top of the hill overlooking the ruins of the ancient city, a monastery was born around 980. It was attached to Cluny in the 11C. Around this priory dedicated to Saint Luperc, the medieval city has developed, protecting itself behind ramparts and ditches. The monastery received part of the taxes raised on the Thursday market and the fairs. King Charles IX of France shortly after his visit to Eauze in 1565, created or rather revived these markets disorganized by wars. Henri III de Navarre (not yet Henri IV of France), returned to his states after his four years of captivity at the court, was caught in an ambush in 1576 in Eauze, The same Henri III stayed in Eauze in June 1579 with his sister Marguerite de Valois, the famous Queen Margot, in the house known as ” Jeanne d’Albret”. A town of Protestant security by the edict of Nantes, Richelieu ordered to demolished the fortifications of Eauze in 1624. Wellington, pursuing Soult in 1815, installed his guns here. Éauze is a stage of the Puy en Velay way towards Santiago de Compostela, a major way today among the four paths cited in the pilgrim’s guide from the 12C. Elusa, ancient capital, was already in 333 a resort of the itinerary of the Bordeaux pilgrim from Jerusalem. Abandoned from the 7C, the town was reborn on the mound in the south around a Benedictine monastery founded by Count Othon Bernard de Fezensac in 980. The Benedictines of the Order of Cluny, against the backdrop of reconquest of Spain from the Sarrasins, organize the pilgrimage to the tomb of Santiago, patron of Spain. Attached to the order of Cluny in the 11C, the Saint-Luperc monastery became priory of Saint-Orens d’Auch. It is at the origin of the monastic town and then of the medieval saving of Elusa which certainly prospered on this major axis organizing the reception, the hospitality for all these passing hosts. In the 17C, the hospital and the poor of the city was between the porte Saint-July, and the porte du Lac inside the walls. It included a house with its garden, a church, a cemetery, and other plots of earth. Its old patron seems to have been Hospital Saint-Martin. Already the Gallo-Romains cultivated the vine on the generous lands of the ancient elected official. Since then, tradition has continued until the 21C and viticulture has become a real economic lung for the Armagnac region and its capital, Éauze, whether it is the precious brandy, an old lady, Over 700 years, which has given its name to the region and the terroir, or white wines which are born from the happy marriage of grape varieties cultivated on the southern slopes of the hillsides and rays of an abundant sun, without forgetting the famous aperitif Gascon, the Floc de Gascogne.
