Therefore, here is my take on the Church Sainte-Marie-Madeleine of Vendôme !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The City of Vendôme is located 36 km from Blois from where we were coming on the road D957,around City on the N10 to City center following signs for Rochembeau parking, The City is 89 km from Loches where we were first, and 359 km from our current home on the D357 short on the A28/A11 then on the A81 to N157 dir Rennes and past the rocade on the N24 going home on the D768.

The Church Sainte-Marie-Madeleine had in 1523 a chapel at the corner of the nave and the bell tower. At the beginning of the 17C, four chapels about 1 meter deep were installed on the other side of the north aisle, on the south face of the nave, along the rue Saint-Jacques. In 1680 another chapel was founded along this same street at the corner of the church. The church was used as a firewood store during the French revolution. It was sold as national property on May 17, 1795. The church was returned to worship during the Concordat (1802), becoming the second parish of the city. The church consists of a central nave 47 meters long and 13 meters wide, a 6 meters wide side aisle flanks the nave to the north, a polygonal chevet closes the nave to the east. The bell tower is 25 meters high.

On June 2, 1474, Jean VIII, Count of Vendôme, founded the Church Sainte Marie-Madeleine with the support of its inhabitants and in particular the brotherhoods of winegrowers and gardeners cultivating many market garden lands in the surrounding area. The bell tower of the Madeleine church is 65 meters high. The oldest bells dates from 1814, it weighs 737 kg . The second bell dates from 1826. It weighs 1014 kg ,The largest bell dates from 1896, and it weighs 1448 kg. In 1487 was the creation of the parish of La Madeleine. 15C creation of a side aisle to the north. 16C construction of a sacristy and development of four chapels to the south. 19C embellishment with new statues , including that of Saint Fiacre, patron saint of gardeners, painted decoration and a set of stained glass windows from the Lobin workshops in Tours. Although the church dates from the 15C, its interior was restored in the 19C. The origin of the hospital adjoining the Place de la Madeleine dates back to around 1620-1623 when the Hôtel-Dieu was transferred to this location by César de Vendôme. Restoration of the framework 2008-2009.
