We came back to the wonderfully beautiful Centre Val de Loire region, practically my backyard, and love it ; many times here. We were on my road warrior trip in the Loire valley and this was on the road between several places we came to see, This is another new town for us and glad passed by it Therefore, let me give you a bit on this is Orbigny !! Hope you enjoy it as I.
The town of Orbigny is in the department of Indre-et-Loire, no. 37 in the Centre-Val de Loire region of my belle France, It is 46 km from Tours, 20 from Loches, 12 km from Saint-Aignan-sur-Cher , and 393 km from my current home, The D 89 comes from Genillé and heads towards Saint-Aignan-sur-Cher, also passing through the town of Orbigny. the A 85 autoroute from Angers to Vierzon via Saint-Aignan-sur-Cher and exit no. 12, We passed by on the D89 , and saw a nice castle.
The Château du Mousseau is located in the village of Le Mousseau part of the town of Orbigny, The castle less than a km of the town center, on the D 89. Mousseau was a fief of Montrichard , Property of the Law de Lauriston family, it was built in the neo-Louis XIII style in cut stone and bricks, an architecture not very common in the region, between 1876 and 1880. A chapel is located on the top level of the central building. A set of outbuildings completes the castle.

Other things to see here with more time are : The Church of Saint-Vincent built from the 11C, but it replaced one or two older churches, the first of which dates from the 6C. La Bretèche is a former fief of the abbey of Villeloin. A probable fortified dwelling was replaced, probably in the 19C, by a castle flanked by two symmetrical pavilions. The castle was a fortified house in the 16C. The main body of the castle retains a corner turret covered in pepperpot in the 21C, traces of loopholes, hidden externally, are still visible inside the tower. The Château de l’Estang, former fief of the Montrésor castellany built in the 16C and restored several times since, retains from the initial fortress a cylindrical tower equipped with machicolations. Its owners also own part of the Brouard forest. The Ferté manor , erected as a lordship, was known from the beginning of the 13C. In the 15C, it passed into the hands of the Sigougné family who kept it until the French revolution. The only body of the castle retains remains of two defense towers and a bay of the facade still shows a molded arch from the 15C. The castle is surrounded by moats which still contain water.
A bit of history I like tell us that the construction of a church in Orbigny in the 6C, founded by Euphrone, one of the bishops of Tours and attested in the works of Gregory of Tours, is an indication of the early Christianization of a territory which, during the High Middle Ages and until the 9C, belonged to the pagus Turonicus. At this time, the Orbigny site found its location within the southern margins of this ancient administrative entity and the church of Orbigny, probably built under the impetus of the bishop of Tours Saint Euphrone, proved to be a structuring element of the parish territory which was organized around it. In the 13C, the church of Orbigny was the property of the treasurer of the chapter of Tours Cathedral. It was also in the Middle Ages that Orbigny was most likely located on a pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. Coming from Montrichard, this path passes through Orbigny, where it meets another route coming from Saint-Aignan-sur-Cher and heads towards Montrésor then Châtillon-sur-Indre before reaching Limoges. Orbigny then had a maison-Dieu, a leper colony and a temple house, frequent developments on pilgrimage routes but which were not precisely located in Orbigny, According to a local tradition, Joan of Arc passed through Orbigny, after her victory over the English in 1429 in Orléans, to go to Chinon and persuade the future Charles VII to accept the throne of France, As part of the creation of the towns, after adoption of the law of December 14, 1789, the town of Orbigny was born, within territorial limits identical to those of the former parish, The fighting that took place in Orbigny on August 21 and 22, 1944 after the recapture of Loches by the nazis on August 20 left damage and deaths, this in WWII,
