I like to tell you again about my road warrior trails in my belle France. Again, found me an older paper picture of something wonderful, glad I did find it and will need to show it to the world, I like to do justice to the place and give you an introduction, Therefore, here is my take on the Abbaye de Vaucelles !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I. The Abbaye de Vaucelles abbey ,formerly Notre-Dame de Vaucelles is a former monastery of Cistercian monks, founded in 1131 by Saint Bernard himself, it is located about 13 km from Cambrai in the Department 59 Nord, in the town of Les Rues-des-Vignes of the Hauts de France region. Access the abbey by the D917 and D96 roads via exit No 9 of the A26 highway where a panel presents the abbey of Vaucelles, In particular, it had the largest Cistercian abbey church in the world. Sadly, a large part of the abbey is completely destroyed, but the outline of the old abbey is marked on the ground. The site also houses a medieval garden that can be visited. It has a choir of ambulatory and radiant chapels.The largest church in the order of Cîteaux was here. From the beginning of the 13C, two cloisters existed. The little one, that of the novitiate, and the infirmary (1179) or cloister of conservation; The great cloister, that of the choir monks (1204). Some library works, which had 40,000 volumes in 1257, are kept in Cambrai. The abbey was almost completely destroyed in the French revolution ,it was suppressed in 1790. More in the beginning of the 20C, during the Great War or WWI. It was bought in 1971 by the Lagoutte family and work was undertaken to restore it and exploit it touristically. However, it was bought in 2017 by the Department of the Nord (north). The department also bought the scalable in 2019, In the period 2020-2032, the Nord department plans to complete the interior fittings of the abbey, with a reception, a shop, a catering room and conference and exhibition rooms. By 2032, the wing of the monks will be restored and the second level of the abbey will be fitted into rooms for artistic residences. There , my parents born in Cuba met and later on I was born there too. 100% guanche (annexed Tenerife to Spain on April 10 ,1496). I left Cuba as many have to Madrid, Spain where I lived for 4 years. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
