The parc Beaumont and palace of Pau !!

I bring you back to a place our family gathered for many years, first on my dear late wife Martine’s side for the Tour de France, and later us just even staying there as a base to see more of the region. This is Pau, in dept 64 Pyrénées-Atlantique in the region of Nouvelle Aquitaine of my belle France.  Wonderful Pau is only  about 200 km from Bordeaux and Toulouse and 250 km from Zaragoza in Aragon,Spain. We have come by car always, I like to tell you about a wonderful park and garden that is worth the detour , me think, Therefore, here is my take on the Parc Beaumont and palace of Pau !! Hope you enjoy it as I. The great parc Beaumont with a lake, river, and cascade with several branches of flowers and rosary on 12 hectares having 110 different species of trees with some remarkable such as the bold cypress, of Louisiana , the Persimmon of Virginia, and the Giant Sequoia. pau parc beaumont jardin public kiosk musique aug14 On November 4, 1898, the winter palace was inaugurated on the edge of the Beaumont park at the site of a villa designed in the neo-rococo style of the Belle-Epoque, It was Anna de Noailles who ceded the land to the city of Pau. The Palais d’hiver or winter palace replaced the villa in the middle of the park there.; it is now the palace des Pyrénées or Beaumont. The pretty kiosk of the park bears her name as a souvenir of the famous novelist and poet. It has a palmarium of 1,800 m2 housing an exceptional exotic garden. Completed with playgrounds and shows and a restaurant, it becomes a high place in the life of the winter period. It is to link it to the heart of the city that the Boulevard des Pyrénées will be built. Pau parc beaumont palais des pyrénées side front aug14 After the Great War or WWI, when it cannot be maintained and deteriorated, the city hall entrusts the exploitation of the winter palace to the Société des Casinos de Cannes and Deauville. The places are transformed: a large rectangular hall and a beautiful half -circular rotunda replaces the palmarium. It will serve as a hospital during WWII, slowly deteriorates and suffers the outrage of time. In 1997, the City chose to give it a new beginning, and a new mission. In 2000, the Palais des Pyrénées or now Beaumont, witness the dazzling era from the 1930s, became a historic congress center where business receptions and meetings found a prestigious space.
