The Château de Plessis-Bourré of Ecuillé !!

We were on our road warrior mode a while back in the wonderful Loire valley of my belle France. As usual, I passed by little Ecuillé , and needed to stop briefly, to give it my tour of honor, This is off the beaten path and worth the detour, me think, I just touch base , and happy to have found me this older paper picture that needs to be in my blog. For reference, the town of Ecuillé is in dept 49 of the Maine et Loire in the Pays de la Loire region, Therefore, let me tell you a bit on the Château de Plessis-Bourré of Ecuillé !! Hope you enjoy the post as I. The town of Ecuillé is vastly known for its castle, the Château de Plessis-Bourré. The castle with the water piece, the moats and the avenues look pristine nice. Jean Bourré, was Minister of Louis XI in 1462, was at the origin of the construction of this well-known castle under the name of Plessis-de-Vent. Its plan has a rectangle of which each angle is armed with a tower wearing a pointed roof. Large and deep moving moats surround it. A stone bridge gives access to it on one side. In a large interior courtyard is a chapel with a gable and high mullion window. The main home includes large, richly furnished rooms. Certain parts of the house are restored in the second half of the 19C. Other parts of the wooden castle are the large and small living room, box ceiling in the guard room. The castle is private, but open to the public. Écuillé Château de Plessis Bourré c2005 The Château de Plessis-Bourré has the distinction of being in a transition style. Indeed, it has all the characteristics of a fortress from the end of the Middle Ages with its defense system. However, its elegance, its arcaded promenory, its high men’s windows and the comfort of its interiors appreciated by several kings of France announced the Renaissance. It was in 1911 that Mr. Vaïsse, a great-uncle of the current owners, takes possession of it , On the death of Mr. Vaïsse, his nephew, the Duke of Dalmatia, succeeds him and opened the doors to the public in 1955. Today, his descendants are responsible for preserving his authentic and family character, as it was built in the 15C. Other monuments to see here are : The Sainte-Anne of Plessis-Bourré Chapel, from the 15C, the Château de la Roche from the 18-19C; The Saint-Martin de Vertou Church, rebuilt at the end of the 19C; and the deanery home. A bit of history I like tell us the stronghold of Plessis-Bourré is initially known as Plessis-de-Vent. Jean Bourré Minister of Louis XI, Charles VIII and Louis XII, makes acquisition in the 15C, and had a castle built in the old ways that served there a Gallo-Roman domain which then passes under the control of imperial finances then in the chapter of the Angers cathedral. In the Middle Ages, the castelany depends on the Plessis-le-Vent (Plessis-Bourré). In 1468, Jean Bourré, who acquired the estate, had a castle built there inspired by that of Langeais. In the 18C, Ecuillé depends on the election of Angers.
