We go by car for convenience but once in town we let our feet do the walking and we love it.  Moving into the city we came along several nice monuments on the avenues of Toulouse. One of these is the Monument to the combattants de la Haute Garonne, at the Allée Forain-François Verdier near the crossing with the rue de Metz. toulouse-mon-des-combattants-de-la-haute-garonne-jan20 You can go on with wonderful monuments in different parts of the city of Toulouse such as the Monument to the Combattants de 1870 at the Allée Jules Guesde. toulouse-monument-aux-combattants-de-1870-allc3a9es-jules-guesde-jan20 There are monuments that had no time to go in and passed by them again or first time. This is the case of the Théatre Sorano created in 1694  on the former auditorium of the National History Museum of Toulouse.  This is another nice spot at the Allée Jules Guesde and near other museums and gardens of the pink city of Toulouse. A grandiose area to see many nice things in the city and fantastic walking tour. The official Théâtre Sorano of Toulouse : https://www.theatre-sorano.fr/ toulouse-theatre-sorano-allee-guedes-jan20 This is again a nice area to walk with plenty to see and enjoy your stay walking is a must in Toulouse. The magnificent Colonne Dupuy is just in front of the Halle aux Grains (see post) and on Place Dupuy, you can notice an imposing column, almost 20 meters high. It was erected in honor of General Dupuy, hero of the French revolution. This column is also a fountain, framed by 4 powerful griffins at each corner thereof. The statue at the top was not added until later ; it is Dame Tholose, allegory of the city of Toulouse, made in 1550 at the request of the Capitouls, and who was previously at the top of the Donjon du Capitole. (see post). tolouse-colonne-dupuy-jan20-1 The Collége Pierre de Fermat or middle school at rue Gambetta , Toulouse was founded in 1808. The college bears the name of the famous mathematician and physicist Pierre de Fermat, from the region. The school gives a second life to the Hôtel de Bernuy, one of the most beautiful mansions of the Renaissance. It was built in the 16C for the merchant in pastel Jean de Bernuy, Today, 400 hundred years later, it is undoubtedly one of the oldest colleges in France still within its original walls A royal host, François Ier, came to thank, right here, his benefactor Jean de Bernuy for having paid the deposit when he was a prisoner of Charles V of Spain. It is since this court of honor that the hotel tower has risen, Pierre de Fermat was a French mathematician and lawyer from the 17C. He is famous for his major contributions in the field of mathematics, in particular in geometry and theory of numbers. He was also a magistrate respected and exercised as an advisor to the Parliament of Toulouse. His analytical mind and mathematical discoveries have left a lasting imprint in the field of mathematics, making him one of the most important figures in the history of mathematics.
